"i'm not doing this with you,"
gally spoke firmly,
crossing his arms against his chest.
"oh my god, gally, stop being stubborn. come on!"
"no, y/n, it's embarrassing."
"who cares!"
y/n grabbed onto his hands and began trying to dance with him once more,
but he stood still with limp arms.
"ugh, you're the worst,"
she teased and threw his arms back.
"i don't dance."
"so you've said. you're a stick in the mud."
gally snorted mockingly,
"shut up."
"fine. if you won't dance with me."
y/n walked away,
but not without a quick wink,
then found teresa.
the two locked hands than began to dance around the fire,
their laughs loud throughout the night.
gally couldn't help but admire from afar.
the moon beamed down on her skin and made her glow radiantly,
as though she were the only one in the room.
her smile was bright,
her eyes were glittering with excitement,
and gally felt his heart stammer inside his chest from the mere sight of her.
when she came back to meet him,
his smile hadn't faltered in the slightest.
"see, everyone else will dance."
"yeah, whatever."
the two of them laughed together before ending their day.
y/n laid with her back to gally's chest,
where he could both hold her tight and keep her warm.
"gally?"
she spoke quietly,
her voice stripped of the humor in it.
it was soft,
innocent,
but serious.
gally had never heard it as so.
"yeah?"
"can you promise me something?"
"anything."
"if..if things go wrong. will you protect me?"
"w-what? if things go wrong?"
"like, i don't know. if someone tries to hurt me."
gally shook his head at the thought,
"no, no one will hurt you, y/n. we have a rule, you know this. one glader cannot harm another."
"i know, gally, but...things are changing. i just need to know you'll be there if i need you."
"are you crazy? of-of course i'm there. you don't ever have to doubt that."
she nodded and kissed his chin,
her voice returning to the normal tune it's always been,
"great! goodnight, my love. see you tomorrow."
gally kissed her cheek goodnight and laid his head to rest,
but couldn't fight the unease building in his chest.
y/n felt danger coming towards her.
gally could only pray he'd be there to stop it in time.

y/n leaned against the tree post and looked at the solid walls that boxed them in,
and felt the worry that had been brewing suddenly solidify in her gut.
"do me a favor, will you?"
newt asked,
drawing y/n away from her worried thoughts.
"depends?"
she smiled with a laugh.
"find me some fertilizer, yeah?"
"ugh, newt, no! i hate going out there by myself."
"ah, grow some chops, y/n. what could possibly be out there that we don't know about?"
with a quick playful taunt or two between them,
y/n had one last laugh then wearily trailed into the forest despite her gut feeling.
when she found herself hovered over and grabbing the soil carefully,
mumbling beneath her breath,
she was soon kicked in the ribs and fell into the dirt.
she heaved for air,
and felt the dirt rise in the atmosphere to soon cover her lungs.
ben's faced now hovered over her,
"oh, i've been waiting for this."
y/n tried to force the scream out of her throat,
but her lungs were too dry to relieve her cries.
the fear iced her veins and she suddenly pushed him off with all her might,
the adrenaline rush aiding her,
then scrambled to her feet to run.
but he was quicker,
he grabbed onto her ankle and she collided with the ground again.
she inhaled the cool air and released it with a blood curdling scream,
knowing these were her last few moments alive.
ben allowed his knife to hold at her throat,
where the unsteady movement sliced her skin just enough to cause a trickle of blood.
she cried out again,
and tried to fight him despite the weakness in her muscles.
gally and the rest of the boys ran after the scream and stumbled upon y/n being held at knifepoint.
without missing a beat,
gally pushed ben off of the girl and hurried to straddle him,
and allowed his fist to make contact with his face numerous times.
gally was seeing red,
and he couldn't find the strength to stop.
the one person he had promised to protect almost had her life stripped from her.
y/n laid a hand to his shoulder,
and suddenly he mollified into her touch.
he stopped his beating,
and looked down at the bloodied mess he created.
"c-come on. let's-let's go, gally. let's go,"
she whispered through the trembles in her voice.
when gally met her eyes,
he saw the tears and the blood that was now staining her shirt.
her face had lessened in color,
and her hands were trembling wildly.
"y/n..are-are you okay?"
he asked,
rising to his feet while the crowd surrounded them.
"fine...fine. are you?"
"y-yeah."
"thank you...you saved me."
"barely, y/n. look at you, you're bleeding."
she looked down at her skin and saw the blood soaked clothes.
as her adrenaline slowed,
a sudden unbearable pain shot throughout her.
she winced and let out another cry,
gripping her abdomen.
"what? what is it, y/n?"
the shivers against her from the lack of blood and sheer pain were too much for her to speak.
gally carefully let his fingers lift the ends of her shirt,
to reveal a deep stab wound.
"oh, god,"
he mumbled.
y/n's legs liquified and she soon fell into gally's arms.
"stay with me, y/n."
and suddenly,
her world fell black.
gally rushed to the med-jack's with y/n's limp body in his hands.
fear was rising inside of him.
the anxiety of her never recovering was becoming an all to surreal moment;
he couldn't find the air to breathe.
if y/n doesn't make it...
he shook the thought out of his mind,
knowing she would push through.
gally laid her down and let the med-jacks attend to her,
but all he could do was stare.
his clothes were now blood soaked,
but it didn't matter.
he watched her seemingly lifeless body,
and watched as they hurried to fix her.
"come on, gally...let them work,"
alby whispered,
placing a supportive hand to his shoulder.
gally followed alby without even realizing.
the guilt was beginning to consume him.
he'd made a promise to her,
and he barely kept it.
if at all.
"listen...you listening, dude?"
gally looked up from the grass to meet with alby and newt's gaze.
"that girl in there is stronger than any of us out here. she will make it, gally. you know this."
newt's voice was stern,
but wary from the worry of his own friend.
"yeah, i know."
"then get yourself together, mate. y/n doesn't want to wake up to a literal bloody ol' wanker like you now, eh?"
he joked with a faint laugh.
anger began to swell inside of gally's chest once he remembered ben.
"ben..ben, where is he?!"
"relax! he's in the pit. he's been...stung."
newt informed.
then alby continued,
"but we're banishing him tonight. okay?"
"good."
gally turned on his feet and back into the hut where y/n laid,
her body still cold and pale from the lack of blood.
"is-is she gonna be okay?"
"she lost a lot of blood...i-i think she'll be okay."
small relief washed over gally,
and he suddenly felt light inside.
he stood by quietly in the corner,
watching them work at the stab wound.
the sight of it,
long and deep with dampened blood,
reignited the fury he felt towards ben.
if he'd had it his way,
ben would already be out in the maze right now with no look back.
but he was forced to be patient.
it could wait until after y/n was awake.
soon,
it was just gally and y/n alone in the hut.
he sat next to her on a chair and held her hand in the palm of both of his hands,
"please wake up soon, y/n. i can't do this without you,"
he whispered to the winds,
letting this message carry to wherever y/n may hear it.
"i'm sorry that i haven't done my job right. i should have been there. i should have noticed him following you. but..please, come back to me and i'll do everything in my power to keep you safe."
he brought their connected hands to his lips,
and his throat began to close.
"don't...don't leave me. we-we have so many things to do, y/n. i still owe you a dance."
he chuckled lightly but felt the fear claw at his insides.
until she stirred.
first her body flinched slightly,
but just enough to show she was awakening,
then her expression morphed into one of irritation.
"oh, hell,"
she began groaning,
not opening her eyes yet.
gally breathed out and smiled,
"welcome back."
her eyelids fluttered open to reveal those deep, enticing eyes.
"he stabbed me!"
y/n stated with a laugh of purse surprise,
"i can't believe it. that'll be a nice scar, hm?"
she hiked her shirt up enough to reveal the patched area of her stomach.
"that's what you're worried about? scars?"
"i mean...it'll look pretty bad ass."
gally laughed and nodded his head,
still holding her hand.
"how are your hands holding up?"
gally carefully laid her hand to her side to examine his knuckles.
they were swollen and purple.
"oh.."
"i think they might be broken, love."
"i don't think so."
y/n took her index finger and gently pressed against his knuckle,
but it was enough to make him grimace.
"ah, damn, y/n!"
"broken,"
she stated with a weak smile.
"fine. i'll get them fixed in a few."
"good! then after, you owe me a dance, right?"
"...heard all that, did you?"
"mm, most of it."
she leaned up as best she could and brought gally's face to hers,
where they shared a pure, loving kiss.
gally's body,
once trembling and anxiety ridden,
was now free and full of love.
he silently walked out of the hut,
mumbling a small prayer to the gods above.
