hotheads: minho. (part two.)

minho couldn't stop his foot from bouncing against the floor.
the entire glade was quiet with shock at the return of y/n:
the only person to have ever survived the maze after dark.
"i can't take it anymore. please say something,"
y/n spoke with desperation thick in her tone.
minho looked up at her for the first time since she came back and allowed himself to revel in the beauty he'd missed.
"hey."
was all he said.
y/n sat next to him,
allowing the collected spices of her scent to wallow in his lungs.
"hi."
minho folded his hands together then pressed his knuckles to his lips.
"i know you're mad, minho. punch me, cuss me out, do something!"
minho considered it,
but he couldn't quite force his tongue to speak the vile words she sought to hear,
no matter how often he thought of it.
"how'd you do it, y/n? and-and why?"
"i told you in the note. and i found it, minho. i found the way out."
y/n took his hands into hers slowly.
"then why aren't we out there right now?"
y/n shifted in her seat and tore her hands away from minho's just as he was beginning to embrace her.
she looked away from his eyes,
forcing minho to only stare at her profile:
winded skin that was kissed by the sun,
scars and scratches that hadn't yet healed,
and eyelashes that brushed her brow bone.
minho swallowed hard;
even through all this anger and confusion there was still room left inside of him to love her from afar.
whatever was happening with her though,
was an internal battle.
"y/n?"
her eyes glossed over with tears as she cast a far away look.
he knew there was something wrong with her.
the usual twitch in the corner of her lip where she tried to hide her seemingly permanent smile was no more,
her hands that were once constant with movement remained shaky with anxiety.
minho reached for her hand and laced their fingers together,
waiting until the frigidness in her body ebbed away at the warmth of his hold.
she turned to him with softened eyes,
the fire that was once inside of them dying down with each passing second,
and let out a shaky breath.
y/n leaned into him and let her soft lips brush his ear before whispering,
"it's a trap."
the blood in minho's veins ran cold at the words.
when she pulled back,
her grim expression disappeared with a single blink.
but minho couldn't hide the worry,
and y/n could see it in the set of his brows.
"what-"
minho began before y/n cut him off,
"don't. wait."
"wait? wait until what?"
"minho, shut up."
"shut up?! y/n, you said-"
she cut him off swiftly with the set of her lips onto his.
minho melted into her and allowed himself to bend at the curve of her.
his tongue traced the swell of her bottom lip,
and the warmth was only increasing between them.
the two pulled back and let the cool air fill their once burning lungs.
minho could still taste y/n against his tongue;
her flavored chapstick that never left her pocket.
"okay, yeah. that's one way to shut me up."
"thought so."
"...i, uh, thought about you everyday while you were gone, asshole."
y/n directed her attention to him and smiled that pearly white smile minho adored.
"i did, too. the thought of coming back to you kept me alive."
"whatever it takes to keep you here with me."
minho gave her a quick nudge with his shoulder which made y/n laugh.
"so can we, um, talk about it now?"
"meet me by the deadheads at the first break of light."
and without a second glance back,
y/n walked out of the homestead to return to the pit,
where her interrupted punishment could continue.
minho ran a hand over his face in frustration.
so many questions running through his mind,
and all he could focus on was the memory of her soft, pink lips coming together with his to create an explosive alchemy.
***
minho couldn't sleep
and when the first shred of light cast against the once black sky,
he rushed from his hammock and to the deadheads where the familiar silhouette of y/n could be found.
without thinking,
he rushed towards her and pulled her close enough so that her lips could brush his.
it had barely been twenty-four hours since y/n last kissed him,
but his body was cold from the lack of her taste and he didn't think he could go another second without her.
"minho,"
she whispered out,
forcing every hair on minho's body to stand.
"say it. i...i need to hear you say it,"
he whispered back.
y/n didn't hesitate when speaking,
"i love you."
the words washed over him and sent him into a state of euphoria.
he had waited a painful, long month to finally hear those words roll of her tongue with such sincerity.
there was a bond that y/n and minho shared that couldn't quite be described through words.
it was a love that was immediate from the moment their hands had fallen together as one,
a love that had been crafted the moment their hearts began beating,
it all led to this moment.
minho kissed her long and firm with a hand to her bare skin.
and when they broke apart,
minho laid a gentle kiss to the corners of her lips to show her that he, too, loved her,
even if he couldn't use his words to say so.
"listen, minho. wicked. i got out of the maze and they-they kept me for, like, two weeks. there was talk of harvesting organs and controlling the variables at the last second. i don't know what's happening, minho. but people are going to die because they want them to."
minho couldn't wrap his mind around the explanation.
"who's gonna die?"
"i don't...i don't know."
"shit,"
he exhaled in frustration.
"what are we supposed to do? sit here and-and rot away or walk into a trap?"
"neither. they'll set the grievers on the glade in a week. we have just enough time to escape."
"how, y/n?"
y/n could hear the fear set in his tone.
fear that his brothers were in danger,
fear that he'd lose the girl his heart beat for when he just got her back.
"no...no, i won't risk losing anyone."
"listen..i-i met someone. he's setting up a sort of...transport for us."
"you met someone? at wicked? and he's suddenly taken a vow of kindheartedness? don't be stupid,
y/n. he's either tricking you or simply trying to bone you."
y/n gave him a shove that wasn't playful,
though he barely stumbled back.
"don't be like that. he's serious, minho."
"how do you know this isn't part of the trap?"
"do you trust me?"
"y/n, it isn't-"
"do you trust me?"
minho knew better than anyone to trust his gut.
it solidified the longer he stared into her eyes.
and there was nothing left for him to say.
"yes. i do."
"then believe me. we'll make it out alive."
she stepped closer and wrapped her arms around him,
bringing him into a reassuring hug that made any doubt in his body ebb away.
"okay. we'll make it out alive."
y/n gave his adams apple a gentle kiss that made him shiver.
he then asked,
"so, did alby let you out?"
she snickered.
"what? no, i picked the lock. again."
***
y/n giggled loudly as minho came from behind her,
snaking his arms around her waist and holding her to his chest.
"it's beautiful, isn't it?"
she asked,
watching as the setting sun reflected off the water.
minho kissed her temple before agreeing.
"very."
she leaned into his chest and listened to the sounds of the safe haven echo:
chuck's laughter from the joke thomas told,
newt and gally in an intense game of rock, paper, scissors,
and the entirety of a generation that had once been sentenced to damnation until now.
"can you believe it? we're all here because of you. picking the lock, proving us wrong and going into the maze, finding us another way out. it would have been impossible without you."
she turned around in his arms and gave his chin a small peck.
"and look, we're here together."
"of course. hotheads always stick together, right?"
"from now until forever."
y/n winked before laying a gentle kiss to his lips.
between the bliss that was blooming inside of him from the ecstasy y/n offered,
minho whispered the words,
"i love you."
for the first time,
but surely not the last.
