thomas boarded onto the helicopter with his mind in shambles and a panic steady heart.
he wasn't sure why he was still so alarmed,
he was saved after all.
him and all his friends were.
but he noticed his hand felt a little emptier than usual,
and quickly realized y/n was no where to be seen.
between his fight or flight reflexes,
and his blinding adrenaline,
he didn't even realized he'd let go of her hand during their fight.
he watched the last few remaining kids board onto the helicopter,
and still y/n was no where to be found.
he sat up quickly and looked around,
beginning to yell,
"where's y/n?! where is she?!"
he couldn't find her,
and nobody was telling him anything.
thomas could feel his tunnel vision taking over,
and if he didn't find y/n soon,
he was sure to cause havoc.
finally,
y/n stumbled into the helicopter and laid a calming hand to his chest.
"thomas, thomas, i'm right here. calm down."
thomas relaxed into her touch and found himself able to breathe again.
both him and y/n fell to the floor from the exhaustion that numbed their limbs.
thomas grabbed her hand and held it close to his heart,
relishing in the symphony of their pulses.
"where were you?"
he asked with his head to her shoulder.
"i was...dealing with something."
thomas looked up at her with knitted eyebrows.
"are you okay?"
"i am now."
thomas let his eyes follow the movement of her hand,
where she hiked up her shirt to reveal a stab wound from what could only be the grievers.
"are you-are you okay?
"i'm fine, love."
he let the tips of his fingers brush her abdomen in comfort,
sending a wave of chills over her.
"i'm sorry, y/n."
"for what?"
"i wasn't...i wasn't there to help, i let you get stabbed."
y/n swiftly pulled her shirt down and covered her wound again,
then took thomas's face into her hands.
he stared at her with burning eyes of fatigue,
and blinked in her loving beauty.
even through the fighting and the gruesome torture they faced,
y/n was still the most gorgeous girl he'd ever had the pleasure of meeting.
"i left you. if i had paid attention, you wouldn't have gotten s-stabbed."
y/n ran a comforting thumb over his eyebrows,
smoothing out the frayed hairs,
and smiled soft.
"we all get a little injured sometimes."
"yeah....but-but not you, y/n."
y/n saw the tears swimming in his eyes and could tell the lack of sleep and pain of losing his best friend was beginning to take its toll.
y/n kept her smile soft and brought his head to her chest,
where he could close his eyes and attempt to sleep as much as possible.
and though thomas was sure he would find zero sleep,
the steady rhythm of y/n's heartbeat lulled him to a slumber.
y/n held the boy close to her body and continued running her hands through his hair while he slept.
she was glad to feel him finally relax after days of nonstop activity,
and his soft snores against her chest were just as comforting.
it disheartened her when she had to wake him,
and his bloodshot eyes were wide with loss.
"hey,"
she spoke softly and felt the numbness in her legs begin to take over.
"where are we?"
"i'm not sure. but we're slowing down so, i think we're about to stop."
"how...how long was i asleep for?"
"maybe thirty minutes?"
thomas nodded and sat up,
stretching so largely that the bones in his body began to crack.
"are you okay?"
"yes, my love. relax."
y/n kissed his cheek and felt the tension in his muscles when he forced a smile.
soon,
they were rushed off the helicopter and fighting way through the infested people that threatened them.
thomas made sure not to let go of y/n's hand the entire trip through.
he felt a tug at his heart once he noticed her limp,
a side effect from the impending wound poisoning her abdomen.
"y/n, you're not okay,"
thomas mumbled as they rushed through the empty halls of the building.
y/n gave his hand a squeeze.
"shut up, thomas, i'm fine,"
she teased and tried to give him a smile.
as soon as they all crowded inside,
alarms started going off throughout the building,
the noise reverberating against the empty walls.
everyone winced and covered their ears,
shielding themselves away from the noise.
the guards who had been titled their saviors soon grabbed them by the collar,
and threw them into an empty room.
thomas kept y/n close by his side,
sure to never let her stray away.
"what's going on out there?"
"nothing we can't handle,"
the guard answered before shutting the door,
leaving the gladers in the dark.
until the lights flickered on,
and revealed the dinner sitting there before them.
the food was so fresh,
the steam was still rising and lingering in the air.
their mouths flooded with their own salvia,
so desperate to taste anything other than frypan's stew.
a chorused cheer rang throughout the area as they rushed to the food before them,
filling their mouths with the most delicious tastes they could have ever imagined.
their stomachs were warm and content,
and their laughs were finally true to their ring for once.
it seemed as though their lives were coming together;
they were finally safe from the troubles of the maze.
y/n laid her head to thomas's shoulder with a smile,
and felt his hand snake itself into hers.
thomas kissed her knuckles with the softest of pecks and silently thanked the lords above for keeping them safe.
y/n heard hushed sniffles coming from behind her,
forcing her to turn around slowly in her chair.
upon her first look,
she saw nothing unusual.
but she listened a little closer,
focusing her hearing away from the jeers of her friends,
and heard the sniffle again.
"what? what is it?"
thomas asked,
looking where y/n was searching for an answer.
y/n didn't reply,
she only stood up and looked behind the towering boxes to find two kids huddled together.
"oh my god,"
y/n whispered and grabbed onto thomas's forearm in sheer surprise.
she then leaned down to level herself with them,
and mustered enough strength to smile at the two.
"hi...are you two okay?"
y/n noticed thomas kneeled down beside her to also talk to the kids.
"i'm thomas. do you know your name?"
"laura. this is my brother, logan."
y/n noticed how similar the two looked and how close they were in age,
leading her to believe they were twins.
"are you okay?"
y/n asked softly.
"mhm."
"are you hiding?"
"from janson."
y/n ran a comforting hand down the girls hair in an attempt to soothe her;
a maternal instinct she never knew she had.
y/n and thomas both stood up and joined the group again,
shock still etched onto their expressions.
"i can't just leave them here,"
y/n defended.
"we can't take care of any kids!"
"shut up, minho, i took care of your crybaby ass for three years!"
"not the same!"
y/n felt a small tug at the hem of her shirt,
and looked down to see logan,
hands trembling with his sister beside him.
"you're hurt,"
he whispered,
pointing to the drying blood that soaked her shirt where her wound laid.
"i'm okay, don't worry."
y/n pulled her shirt up to reveal the gash,
and winced once the boys cold fingers touched her abdomen.
he then grabbed materials from what seemed to be his back pocket and dressed y/n's laceration,
relieving her of the pain she'd been holding back for hours.
"wow..."
y/n whispered in disbelief,
wondering how a boy so young could stitch wounds up even with quivering hands.
"thank you...so much."
thomas couldn't stop himself from hugging the boy.
after all,
he had saved y/n from what could have been too nasty of an infection.
logan had been so deprived of touch aside from the grasp of his sister,
but he eventually melted into thomas's embrace and hugged him back.
"thank you for helping her,"
thomas whispered before pulling away,
lacing his hand into y/n's.
"so we agree? we take them with us?"
thomas turned around to face the group,
but before anyone could object,
thomas began again,
"great! glad we all agree."
