gally kept his head down as thomas asked teresa questions about how to break into wicked.
he hadn't seen y/n since their departure from the maze,
and all he could think about was the last time they'd talked to one another.
he had not only cursed her out with the foulest of words,
but also killed the boy who'd been like her little brother right in front of her.
griever sting or not,
there was no excuse for the way he acted.
he couldn't bear to look her in her eyes.
in the midst of his crushing guilt,
he was also met with the intense feeling of jealousy.
it seemed y/n and newt had gotten closer than usual.
every time he caught a glimpse of her smile from the corner of his eyes,
his heart broke a little more because he wasn't the reason for her smile.
when he heard the echos of her laughter,
his stomach would tighten because she wasn't laughing with him anymore.
instead,
they sat on opposite sides of the room as though they'd never loved one another.
it hurt to avoid her,
but he couldn't quite find the words to apologize.
nothing seemed right.
it looked as though there was no apologizing for this,
no correct words to sum up the act he committed,
no way they were going to end up together again.
"did you hear, gally?"
thomas asked,
standing now directly in front of him.
gally looked up from his spot on the floor and shook his head.
"uh, no, sorry. what?"
"tomorrow night. we're going."
"right."
thomas sulked off into the corner,
on the opposite side of the room from teresa.
it seemed him and teresa were dealing with the same feelings of confusion.
teresa and gally were the traitors,
thomas and y/n were the afflicted.
gally felt a random surge of courage flow through him.
he stood up from his spot in the chair to find y/n and apologize deeply,
but as he watched her throw her head back and laugh,
it all vanished.
there had been times when she laughed like that with him,
and those had been the best days of his life.
but now,
she was with newt.
newt had guided her through the hurt and pain gally inflicted,
and gally was only a part of her past;
a small piece of her upbringing.
he walked outside and let his feet dangle from the edge of the rock,
reminiscing back to his happy days.

"gally!"
"hm?"
"look!"
gally looked up from his work to see y/n holding her index finger out,
a small monarch butterfly perched on it.
he tilted his head in confusion,
having never seen the creature around here before,
but smiled nonetheless.
seeing y/n flourish around nature was precious to him.
"that's neat, y/n."
"she's adorable, isn't she?"
"how do you know it's a she?"
"the veins on her wings are thicker than they would be on a male."
gally chuckled.
"how the hell do you know that?"
y/n shrugged.
"i don't know, actually."
"you're amazing, y/n, never forget that."
he heard a small giggle leave her lips before the butterfly fluttered away,
returning to wherever it came from.
not a minute later did y/n call his name again,
"gally!"
"yeah, love?"
she showed him a flower that she'd planted months prior finally beginning to grow.
"as much as i love admiring you and these things, i have work to do."
y/n rolled her eyes and playfully tossed a pebble at his back.
"you work too much."
gally chuckled and turned to face y/n now,
a grin wide on his lips.
"you messed up now."
y/n laughed loudly and hurried to her feet,
running away from gally before he could grab a hold of her.
gally chased after the girl,
her hair blowing in the wind and leaving behind the sweet smell of her aroma.
y/n was fast,
but gally was faster.
he grabbed ahold of her waist and sent both of them piling to the ground,
y/n letting out a burst of laughter that brightened the glade.
gally hovered over her and grabbed the flower that seemed to have fallen out of y/n's hand upon the impact.
y/n sank her teeth into her bottom lip and stared at gally with the most intense, loving look he would ever receive.
he slid the stem of the flower behind her ear and smiled down at her.
"my flower girl, you'll always be a part of me."
y/n wrapped her arms around his neck and smiled.
"may we forever grow together, as one."
to seal their wishes,
gally leaned down to her and kissed her.
as though the earth had heard them,
the sun felt a little warmer to their skin,
and there love was endless.
