After that victory at the Battle Factory, our heroes head to the contest hall, as May gets signed up for the pokemon contest.

A boy with green hair and a purple jacket with a cocky smirk sees May and her Beautifly practice.

"So, you two are entering? You gotta do better than that to win." The boy said, in a somewhat condescending tone.

May looked ticked and says "Who're you supposed to be?" The boy smirks and answers "The names Drew, Pokemon Coordinator."

Ash was with his Pikachu, Eevee, Togetic, Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip, already had finished practicing for their demonstration for the contest.

Luckily, he can use more than one or two pokemon, but he chose to only have six pokemon at this contest, since it can show the coordinators all pokemon should work together and the Grand Festival may have you use more than one pokemon.

That would give them decent ideas on the techniques they can use. Anyways, Ash approaches the two, puzzled about the hullabaloo.

Drew notices Ash, seeming to recognize him, most likely on TV and asks "So, you're Ash Ketchum? My Roselia is a fan of you."

Ash blushed modestly and answers with "That's right. And I'm guessing you're Drew? I seen some of the contests you were in. I'm quite impressed with you and your pokemon."

Drew had a confident smirk and nods.
"You got it. I'm glad you recognize me."

Ash looks serious and says "I couldn't help but hear you being rather condescending to my friend."

Drew gulps and says "I had no idea she was your friend. I was only trying to help anyway."

Ash sighs and says "It's her first contest. Of course she isn't very polished, but everyone has a first time, so dont you dare insult her and her pokemon due to her being a novice."

Drew bows and says "I understand. " and walks off. May looks over to Ash, thanking him.

Inside, the contest starts.

"Hello everyone and welcome to the Slateport Pokemon Contest! I'm your host, Vivian! Now, this year will be an interesting time! Because in some cities and towns, if you're lucky, you'll see a very special person give a demonstration for the presentation round!"

The crowd uproar in applause and after they calm down, Vivian introduces the judges, Mr Contesta, Mr Sukizo, and Slateport city's Nurse Joy.

"Alright, now since our guest isn't really a contestant, he's allowed to use more than one pokemon, but said he's only going to use six or more here and at the Grand Festival. So, ladies and gentlemen, give it up for the champion of Kanto, Johto, and the Orange Islands, along with the winner of the coveted Knowledge Symbol, Ash Ketchum!"

The curtains reveal Ash, Pikachu, Eevee, and Togetic, the crowd cheers and Ash feels a little nervous.

Pikachu gives him a thumbs up and that made him feel better, taking a deep breath, he brings out Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip.

Pikachu, Eevee, Treecko, and Mudkip charge an Iron Tail, Togetic a Steel Wing, and Torchic a Crush Claw, then Pikachu charges Electro Ball, Eevee a Trump Card, Togetic an Air Slash, Treecko an Energy Ball, Torchic a Flame Burst, and Mudkip a Water Pulse.

But then they eat the attacks and then they started glowing with the respected elements.

Finally, Pikachu uses Volt Tackle, Eevee, Togetic, Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip surrounds the Volt Tackle with Trump Card, Air Slash, Bullet Seed, Flamethrower, and Water Gun, the seeds making contact, making sure he's still visible, and explodes with the other elements, making fireworks and Pikachu lands down with his tail, then all seven takes a bow.

The crowd explodes in applause.

"I must say, the way your pokemon are in synch and the performance is extraordinary."

"And remarkable!"

"I must say, if you we're a contestant, you'd must've gotten a perfect score. Being able to trust your team is important in contests, battles, and life."

Ash and his pokemon goes backstage, the boy sighing a bit, his pokemon smiling and hugs him.

"You six were amazing." Ash praised his pokemon lovingly, hugging them more.

Ash went to the locker room and May, Max, and Brock approaches him, Max saying "That was awesome Ash! You really nailed it!"

Ash blushes a little. "Thank you Max, but these six did most of the work." May looked nervous, gulping.

Ash notices this and pats her on the shoulder. "You don't need to worry. You'll do great. Remember your training."

May nods, feeling better and gets Beautifly ready.

After everyone's turn on the appeals round, May and Drew made it go the next round and are against each other on the second round.

However, Roselia was too strong for Beautifly, even with Beautifly being part flying type.

May was way too nervous and lost.
May went back to the locker room, clearly upset.

They see Drew lose to a man named Robert with a Milotic. Ash comforted May, promising he would help her with more training.

May dries her tears, still sad. "It's easy for you to day Ash..you never lost a battle..not even once."

Ash looks at May seriously and answers "You're right, I never lost, not even have any of my pokemon unable to battle. But it doesn't mean I dony get worried of the possibility. And it doesn't mean I'll get sad after a loss or a potential loss. I will do everything in my power that my friends achieve their greatest potential. Besides, there are things I'm not the best at, but have improved on. Like speeches."

May giggled, remembering how Ash was nervous at Rustboro City during the meeting. "I suppose."

Ash smiles and says "Everyone has things they're good at and things they need work on. That's a part of life, and so is improvement."

May nods, feeling better. "Right! I won't give up on my dream! And I won't give up on my pokemon!"

Ash smiles and nods. "That's the the spirit May." He said, patting her on the back.

After that, our heroes went back to the boat to make their way to Dewford for Ash's gym battle.
