After Ash's final Battle Frontier victory, our heroes are resting in the Sootopolis City Pokemon Center, preparing for Ash's finally gym battle.

"This may be difficult for you guys, but I'm sure you guys can do it." Ash says to his main team. "Let's get some last-minute training in."

They trained deep in the night until they fell asleep outside at 3 AM. Molly had trouble sleeping and walked out.

"Uh oh..again Ash?" She sighs. Regardless, she went back inside and grabbed an extra large blanket.

She covered the sleeping trainer in it. "G'night.." She whispers softly and goes back inside.

In the morning, Ash finds the blanket on him. He was a bit confused, but he saw Molly approach. "Morning!" She says.

"Did you.."Ash trailed softly. "Yeah, I'm not strong enough to get you all inside, so I had to...what is it? Oh! Improvise." Molly says with a giggle.
"Thank you." Ash says, petting Molly.

After breakfast, the group headed to the gym and found Juan, the gym leader.

"Ah! The fabulous Ash Ketchum! I'm so happy to make your acquaintance!" Juan greeted. Ash blushed, clearly embarrassed.

"Uh..I dunno about that.." He says softly. "Nonsense! Being able to not only balance gym and frontier battle but also do amazing demonstrations in contests is nothing short of fabulous!" Juan says. "Now, I assume you're here to challenge me?"

Ash nodded. "Heh, good guess."Perfect! Let's get started!" Juan says, leading Ash to the battlefield and the group to the bleachers.

The referee came out and cleared his throat. "The battle between Ash the challenger and Juan the gym leader will begin! It will be a full eight on eight battle, and once a trainer has all their pokemon unable to battle, the match is over! In addition, only the challenger may substitute pokemon. Battle, begin!"

Juan sends out Luvdisc while Ash lets out Absol first. The battlefield was mostly water, so Luvdisc can be rather hard to hit, so the camouflage helped the Rendezvous Pokemon get a Water Gun on Absol.

But Ash had an idea. "Absol! IRWOWHNS36!" He called out. Absol nodded and used Iron Tail on the water, making Luvdisc reveal itself.

Then, the disaster pokemon burns Luvdisc with Will-O-Wisp, then proceeded with Hex.

Since Luvdisc had a status ailment, Hex's power was doubled. Finally, Absol used Night Slash to finish the water type.

The two returned their pokemon. "Good try, dear Luvdisc." Juan says softly, then let's out his Walrein.

"You were great, Absol." Ash praised, then let's out Aggron.

"Aggron isn't the best choice against a water type.." May says. "Yeah, but Walrein is an ice type, so Aggron's rock attacks are great against it." Brock corrected slightly.

Ash started to go a more calculated route and had Aggron get faster with the move Automize, which helped dodge Walrein's Ice Balls.

Ash covers his ears before commanding, "Now, Screech!" Aggron screeched at Walrein loudly, stopping the blubbery water type from using Ice Ball again.

Everyone else also covered their own ears as Aggron screeched loudly. While Walrein was distracted, Aggron used Rock Slide to finish the round.

Once the two pokemon were withdrawn, Juan laughs. "I must say, you're very skilled! But don't get too comfortable. Go, Whiscash!" He says, letting out the water and ground type.

Ash smirked. "A part ground type. I know who'll be perfect." He says, letting out Sceptile.
Whiscash went for Tickle, but Sceptile intercepted with Leaf Blade and quickly did one more Leaf Blade to knock out Whiscash.

Now Juan sent out Crawdaunt while Ash sends out Blaziken. Crawdaunt and Blaziken clashed out Night Slashes and Brick Breaks. Once Crawdaunt's guard dropped, Blaziken landed a powerful Sky Uppercut.

Crawdaunt growled and went after Blaziken with Crabhammer, but the fire type landed a final attack of Blaze Kick.

Up next was Huntail vs. Swampert in the next round. Now, it was a pure aquatic match. Huntail went for Crunch, but Ash's Swampert countered it with Ice Punch, making it land on the land.

It then attacked with an Earthquake, stunning the fish like pokemon, then finished with Muddy Water.

The two returned their own water types and got their next pokemon ready. This time was Kingdra against Togetic.

Kingdra launched an Ice Beam, but Togetic flew out of the way, then let's out many Air Cutters. It hit Kingdra for some chip damage. Kingdra used Bubble Beam, but Togetic used Fairy Wind to cancel it out.

Kingdra was clearly getting annoyed and used Hydro Pump. However, Togetic dodged easily and knocked out the dragon type with Moonblast.

Juan then sends out Gorebyss, and Eevee gets on the field. Gorebyss used Aqua Tail, but Eevee jumped and used a strong Buzzy Buzz.

It paralyzed Gorebyss, and it was having a hard time moving. This helped Eevee land Trump Card after Trump Card to knock the South Sea pokemon out.
Now, it was the final round with each other's strongest. Milotic and Pikachu.

The two clashed Iron Tails quite a lot. When Milotic used Blizzard, Pikachu countered with Thunderbolt, and it connected to Milotic.

It paralyzed Milotic, and Pikachu used multiple Quick Attacks to chip away Milotic's stamina. It used Hydro Pump, but Pikachu counters with Volt Tackle and hits Milotic to finish it all.

"Amazing job, Milotic. Get some rest." Juan says, returning Milotic. "Well Ash, you're impressive. I hope to see you prosper. For now, you earned this. The Rain Badge." Juan says, giving Ash the badge, along with a TR for Surf and TM for Whirlpool.

"That's great, Ash! You're ready to battle in the Pokémon league tournament!" May congratulated. "And you have the grand festival." Ash says.

After about a week, the Grand Festival has concluded. May didn't win, but she did get in the top eight. Drew was the runner-up, and Robert, who was the winner in May's very first contest, was crowned first place.

"Man..." May was a bit depressed, but her pokemon comforted her. "Don't worry, May. The Kanto Region's grand festival is starting soon after the Hoenn's Pokemon League tournament." Ash says.

May smiled. "I think I'll enter. Thanks, Ash." She says.
Now, it's time for Ash to prepare for his tournament.

As the journey continues.
