September 1997

I'm going for my nightly walk. I've been doing this for a few months now and I'm really enjoying it. That murder mansion can get very intense sometimes.

I walk through the busy streets of Hong Kong. I see businessmen coming from work, people in uniforms going to work, a couple women with so many groceries that they could feed an entire orphanage.

But my eye lands on a girl around my age. She's hiding her tears and just wandering around a little. She seems very familiar, but I can't really place her.

I want to talk to her, but the problem is that I haven't had a friend since the fire that night. I have never been aloud to.

I do give it a shot. What's the worst that can happen? "Amazing how many people fit in these small streets, right?"

Her head shoots into my direction, and she quickly dries her tears. She's actually really beautiful. Not that it matters.

"Yeah..."

So she speaks English, that's a good start. I hold out a hand for her. "Kate."

She hesitantly shakes it. "Destiny."

"What are you doing here all by yourself?" I ask.

"I could ask you the same thing."

"I'm not by myself." I reach in my bag and take out one of those dolls that I hid in my closet when I was seven. "Ms. Creeps is with me."

She chuckles and takes the doll from me. "I always wanted this one as a kid. Now she just looks like a female version of Chucky."

I take it from her again. "Hi, I'm Chuckeline, wanna play?" I say with a creepy voice.

"No."

"Well, now she's gonna kill you."

"She's a doll."

"That's what they first thought of Chucky too."

We laugh a little, but then it gets quiet. "So, your turn." I say.

"I don't really have anywhere else to go."

"Why not?"

"I used to live with my dad, but then he was muredered."

That's when it hits me. This girl, I killed her father. This is the girl that ran away from me last month when I killed her dad.

I remember reading that her father killed her mother, so I decide not to ask about her. Instead I ask: "And now you live on the streets?"

She nods. It's not a vurnerable nod. It's more like an 'I don't care' nod. Like she totally came to grips with this. I can appreciate that, she's strong.

"You want to come with me?" The words leave my mouth before I can think about it. She can't come with me, I'm the one that got here here in the first place.

"Really?"

"Yes. The house is big, you can easily hide in it. My father won't even know you're there."

What is going on with me? This girl comes along, and suddenly my brain stops functionning? I want to believe it's the guilt, but I've met people who's realtives I killed. I never invited them to my house.

"All right. Then I'm just going to have to trust you won't kidnap me."

"I'm taking you to my house, I'm already kidnapping you." Where did that come from?
