Male characters vs female characters

If you're a writer, I'm SURE you've noticed this. If you're just a reader, you may have as well.

Female characters kind of aren't allowed to have...flaws. I mean, in most good stories they do— but the comments literally rip them to shreds. If a girl messes up once, the comments are like

"Omg this bitch"

"Wtf is wrong with her?"

"Can she just die ?"

But that type of energy is never really reciprocated for male characters no matter what the mistake is lol. I'm not saying the comments don't come at male characters, but I feel like a lot of times readers see them as more redeemable.

And I want to know why that is. 🤔

I've written my fair share of books, with many, many flawed characters. I have just noticed that comments are way more aggressive to female characters, even if they do nothing wrong.

Anyway, what do you all think about this? Is this something you've noticed also? And WHY?
