"These uniforms are ugly," I said.

"They look almost identical to your Karasuno one," My mom sighed, clearly done with my shit, "I think you look great. Now, I have to go to work. Will you be fine?"

"I'm great!" I gave her a fake smile and put as much sarcasm into my voice as I could, but she ignored it.

"Bye, sweetie," She leaned in for a quick hug and left my room.

Biting down on my tongue, I looked at myself in the mirror. My mom was right... the uniform really wasn't so different from before, but it still felt wrong. Nothing felt the same anymore.

"Oh, and don't forget," She called out from downstairs, "Kuroo's driving you to school for your first day!" And with that, I heard the front door shut behind her.

Groaning, I sat back down on my bed, clutching my head in the palms of my hands.

Why, WHY did she torture me like this? On top of everything else, I had to get a ride from Kuroo? He'd probably try to show off his driving skills the entire time or make me feel bad about how I couldn't drive yet.

I don't know how I was planning on doing it, but I'd been hoping to avoid Kuroo as much as possible at school and elsewhere. I realize now that it was stupid to think that, especially because my mother was probably going to make sure we spent every spare minute together. What did she see in him that I didn't?

I picked up my phone, heartstrings tightening at the texts from the Karasuno volleyball team and my old friends, all saying things like good luck and that they missed me.

Tucking my phone in my pocket, I grabbed my backpack and slung it over my shoulder, heading downstairs to wait for his royal majesty, Kuroo, to get here.

I was chewing on a cookie when I heard the doorbell ring.

Gliding lazily towards the door, I took my time unlocking every lock, slowly and surely.

I pushed open the door, and there he was. Tetsurou Kuroo, in the flesh.

He wore a deep red volleyball hoodie over his uniform, a small backpack around his shoulders. His hazel, cat-like eyes looked down into me, and I looked up at his dark, messy hair, a constant bed-head, which girls somehow found attractive. He was a good few inches taller than me, which I hated.

His lips were twisted downward, "Took you long enough, slowpoke."

"Shut up," I instructed, stepping out of the house and closing the door, locking it behind me.

"What, not gonna invite me in for breakfast?" Kuroo raised an eyebrow.

"Shut up."

"You've said that twice already. Sound like a parrot," Not even two minutes into our interaction and he was already on every last nerve of mine.

When I couldn't come up with a response, he gave me a smug grin as he turned around and walked back to his car. I had no choice but to follow.

Getting in the passenger seat without another word, I set my bag down by my feet.

I take in my surroundings. Kuroo's car is... nice. To say the least.

"You've never been in my car before, huh?" Kuroo narrows his eyes at me as I look around.

"No," I roll my eyes, "Never wanted to be."

"It's okay to be impressed," A grin spread across his face, and I wanted so badly to wipe it off.
