THERE WERE no stars in the sky. That was the first thing Odessa Stone noticed when hopping off the school bus. Since the track meet was pushed forward a day, Coach and the driver decided to spend the night at a nearby motel. The ride there was smooth—her and Isaac having small conversations here and there. The blonde never looked back to her friends but couldn't help but feel eyes burning holes in the back of her head. She couldn't help but always fall back at Stiles' words.

You don't know what's going to happen to you.

How could he say that? She had taken Scott's pain over and over again with no past experience or training and she gets that in return? Odessa couldn't help but feel disappointment in her progress with Stiles and their friendship. Sometimes, it felt like they were finally getting to a place where he trusts her—and then he goes and says something like that. It felt like they were taking one step forward and two steps back.

Glancing around at the almost empty parking lot, Odessa looked up to see a lit up sign that said: MOTEL: GLEN CAPRI. She hugged her duffel bag closer to her body as she hung back with the girls.

"I've seen worse," Scott commented from in front of her.

Stiles squinted, "where have you seen worse?"

Before the McCall could respond, Coach took the opportunity to blow his whistle, "listen up," the man called to the teenagers in around him, "the meet's been pushed to tomorrow. This is the closest motel with the most vacancies and least amount of good judgment when it comes to accepting a bunch of degenerates like yourselves," he held up room keys, "you'll be pairing up. Choose wisely. All boys stay away from Stone."

Odessa could feel her cheeks burn at the eyes that found her figure at Coach's comment. Why did he have to say that? She didn't know. She also didn't know how she would room with her friends. It seemed she was the odd one out. However, her friends had different plans.

Allison came up next to the girl as Lydia went up to get a room key, linking their arms, "ready to go, roomie?"

The blonde let out a chuckle, "ready as I'll ever be," the two began to walk closer to Lydia who was looking around with a wary expression, "you okay, Lyds?"

"I don't like this place."

Allison scoffed shortly, "I don't think the people who own this place like this place. It's just for a night."
