chapter fifteen different colored strings

THINGS WERE finally going their way for the McCall pack. Stiles got his ability to read back, Stilinski retained his position as Sheriff and Malia was returned to her Dad safely and soundly. That was, until Odessa found out Scott and Stiles set up a prank for Mischief Night, as they called it. Odessa could only guess what they had in store, but she was excited nonetheless.
The Stone got off Scott's motorcycle better than before, finally having her own helmet. The girl wanted to take her bike to school, but Scott found it unnecessary as she was getting used to his bike and not afraid to ride with him anymore.
Odessa still couldn't figure out why her powers were almost useless when trying to calm Stiles in the bathroom a few days prior. It brought her back to her research when she read about personal connections an Ember can have with someone. Was the connection between them dimming? Or was it something bigger than that?
It was only when she noticed something, or someone, next to her did she leave her thoughts and meet Scott's eyes in surprise.
The Alpha quickly hid his true expression with a deadpan, "you're back at school?"
"No," Ethan answered with firm eyes, "just to talk."
"Oh. That's kind of a change of pace for you guys," out of nowhere, Stiles appeared, taking his place next to Odessa, who couldn't hide her amused look at his usual antics, "usually, you're just hurting, maiming and killing."
"You need a pack," Ethan tried to reason, glancing at his brother, "we need an Alpha."
"Yeah," the Stilinski drawled, "absolutely not. That's hilarious though."
"You came to us for help. We helped."
"You beat the crap outta his face," Odessa corrected with furrowed brows, unimpressed with their argument.
"That's not helping," Stiles nodded to the blonde, happy she was on his side, "in my opinion, that's actually counter-productive."
"Why would I say yes," Scott asked, challenging the twins.
"We'd add strength," Aiden confidently started to list, "we'd make you more powerful. There's no reason to say no."
As the two teens next to Scott rolled their eyes, Isaac came up to the group, looking even more fed up then all of them combined, "I can think of one," he started with narrowed eyes, "like the two of you holding Derek's claws while Kali impaled Boyd. In fact, I don't know why we're not impaling them right now."
