"So you telling me that in the time I was gone,Dazai went missing,Atsushi and Yosano got on a hijacked train and got a girl in danger." Ranpo nods taking a lick of his ice cream. "Pretty much. How was Mai's situation?" I shrug"it was ok." I say leaning against the desk"some boy was threatening her. Nothing much." Ranpo smirks"and you threatened him,didn't you?" I cross my arms"he had it coming. His a** was annoying." That's when the door busted open making me jump and look to see Tanizaki out of breath. "Atsushi's been kidnapped!"

My eyes widened"did you say that Atsushi has been kidnapped?" Kunikida repeats"y-yes." Tanizaki nods"tch,why now of all times? Because of an earlier request to protect the ministry officer,the agency has a full plate right now. We can't spare anyone to look for him." Kunikida admits"you have leads?" I ask Tanizaki as he pulls out a small notebook. "According to eye witnesses,he was stuffed into a truck after being attacked on the road during the day. His whereabouts are currently unknown." Tanizaki reads. "This isn't good...those guys have numerous trafficking routes. Transporting a single person undetected is quite easy." Kunikida noted.

"If we don't save him..."

"Save him? Why should we?" We look to Ranpo,awaiting his explanation. "He got kidnapped because of the whole business with the were tiger and bounty. In other words,it's not our problem,right? We're not his personal bodyguards,and he didn't join us for protection."

"But he's one of the agency members." I say as Tanizaki agrees while Kunikida walks away. "He has a point."

"How about we call the police?" Ranpo suggests"Atsushi is a dangerous beast wanted by the police. The agency will be implicated if this comes to light." Kunikida comments. "Listen,if ya'll don't wanna go look for him." I walk around the desk"I'll go look for him."

"Listen,you all seem very fixated on the words 'reason' and 'should'. But why don't we leave that discussion for later?" Naomi,Tanizaki's sister,says. Naomi was a high school girl with long black hair,pale skin and grey eyes. Tanizaki on the other hand was a boy with ginger hair,ear piercings,pale skin and hazel eyes. "Why don't you hear what he has to say?" We looked to see the Director of the agency,Fukuzawa. He was a man with shoulder length grey hair,pale skin and blue eyes.

"Director?!"

"I am very sorry." Kunikida bows"I will start collecting information once my work is done."

"No need." The director says"attention everyone! Our newest recruit has been abducted. Track him down,all of you! Until he has safely returned. Drop everything you are doing!"

"DROP?!"

"But the request from the-"Kunikida tried. "Leave the explanation to me. Do not worry. We are only making some petty officials wait a little." The Director assured. "Director,is that really ok?" Ranpo groans"what is it,Ranpo?" The Director asks,changing his attention to him. "Well if we look at this reasonably-"

"A companion is in danger! We must save him! Is there a reason more important than that?" The director barked making Ranpo freeze up with fright. "Kunikida,bring him back within three hours." The Director says walking back into his office.

"Ha ha,you got yelled at Ranpo." I snicker pointing to the boy who only groaned in response. Ranpo sticks his tongue out at me before grabbing a bag of chips from his snack stash and opening them. "Want one?" He offers"no thanks." Ranpo nods and begins to eat his snack.

"Go through all the CCTV footages in town! All footages recorded in the last six hours!" Kunikida orders as Ranpo picks up the newspaper from his desk,clearly bored. I sit at my desk playing on my phone while they did it. Though I said I'd help look for Atsushi,I don't really feel like helping this way. I was tempted to just walk out and look that way,but I had a feeling I'd get no where.

"Kenji! Where's the ledger of the camber of commerce?"

"How can there be no four panel comics in here...oh,Kenji! Can you get me an interesting murder case in this area?" I shake my head knowing Kenji was going to decline. "Sure but...won't that piss off the Director?" Ranpo grumbles"just forget it."

I reach over and place my hand on Ranpo's head,giving him head pats. "There,there. It'll be ok. You can go on one tomorrow." He nods"I know,but this boring." I roll my eyes"why don't you look for ones yourself?" I suggest"you might not be able to go on the cases now,but once Atsushi is found I'm sure you can." He shakes his head and pulls away"that's boring to! What good is looking at murder cases if I can't solve them?"

I sweat dropped knowing this was going to be a long 'argument' between the two of us.

Small time skip

We all sat at the table with Kunikida at the front of the table in front of the white board. "The abduction was captured in these photos accidentally take by tourists." Kunikida starts"a common vehicle." The Director hums"yes,the license plate was also forged. But only a handful of people are in the business of forgery in Yokohama. Those who know at the repair shop have already revealed everything to Kenji." I sweat drop remember Kenji's method,it wasn't the safest honestly. "The owner of the truck is Karma Transit. A logistics firm that started off in the trafficking industry." Kunikida goes on. "We should know it's destination simply by contacting them,yes?"

"Yes. Apart from the Mafia,they are the only ones who know about the abduction. Tanizaki is on the case right now." Kunikida's phone then goes off,Kunikida answers his phone and stays silent for a moment. "What's wrong?!" Kunikida's eyes then widen"it's Akutagawa." My eyes widen"really?!" Yosano stands up"what should we do?! Our only lead was-"

Director then got up from his chair and went over to Ranpo who was leaning his head back,clearly not caring. "Ranpo." The Director drops the photo's in front of him. "Your turn." He opened one of his eyes and looks to the photos. "Can I not do it?"

"Ranpo,if you bring back the recruit back safe and sound-"

"What? A special reward? A promotion? I don't need them."

"I'll praise you."

Ranpo lifted his head and looked to the Director,his eyes open. He stared at him in disbelief. "Well-"Ranpo stands up and grabs his hat"since you'd go that far,I guess I have no choice but to!" He pulls out his glasses and placed them on his face. "'Ultra Deduction'!"

Silence.

Ranpo walked over to the map on the board. "Atsushi's current location is here." He says pointing to the sea. "Huh? Is he on a boat or something?" I ask Ranpo"he's traveling East South eastward at the speed 20 knots. He's alive...for now."

"This is bad. If he's transported out of the country,there's nothing we can do." Kunikida says. "Actually,we have a small speedboat at the port." The Director informs pulling out a set of keys. "You should be able to make it if you set off now." Kunikida quickly grabbed the keys and rushed out of building.
