What Lies Beneath

Lily and Caleb were in her car on the way to school, but all weekend ever since the night of Eric Kahn's party Caleb had been standoffish with Lily and it was really pissing her off. So before he could get out of the car Lily locked the doors and he sighed, knowing what was coming

"Why are you angry at me?" Lily asked him, she thought they were close enough that there were no more secrets and lies (at least on his side) so the way he had been acting was confusing her

"I'm not," Caleb replied

"I know you Caleb, what's going on with you?" Lily asked again "We're not getting out of this car until you tell me,"

"I know that A is still after you." Caleb finally said.

"What?"

"I went onto Maya's website and at first I didn't get why you were so interested in it but I'm not dumb, Lil, you guys were scared of that website and the only reason that could be is if someone was after you, aka A," Caleb explained

Lily sighed and leaned back in her seat "I hate that you're smart,"

"I'm not smart just observant," He chuckled "Why didn't you tell me this was still happening?"

"Because it's dangerous and I don't want you involved, we'll sort it out but I don't want to put you at risk too," Lily said "You're my best friend and I can't have anything happen to you,"

"I get that but as your best friend I want to protect you, but I can't do that if you keep secrets from me," Caleb said "I don't want any more secrets,"

"Fine," Lily sighed "But I swear to god if I tell you to stop getting involved at any point you have to listen to me okay?"

"Okay," Caleb nodded and they finally walked into the building for another boring day at school

So now little Caleb knows too, keep an eye on your friends Lil - A

Lily decided to eat lunch with Mike since Emily and Hanna had gone out for lunch, Aria was going to speak to her mother and Spencer had a meeting with her physics teacher

On Maya's website there's a photo of her at Noel Kahn's cabin during the day. You need to ask him why

Lily sighed and tucked her phone back into her pocket, she didn't have a chance to speak to Noel during the afternoon but after school she managed to find him as he was at his locker getting ready to go home

"Hey." Lily said to Noel as she walked over to him 

"You have a good time the other night?" He grinned 

"Yeah. All my dreams came true, I got to see your dear older brother as well," Lily joked

"Eric was right," He chuckled and Lily looked confused "You're fiesty,"

"You didn't need your brother to tell you that to know," Lily rolled her eyes "Anyway, I know Maya wasn't just some random guest at your parties,"

"Random? No." Noel grinned 

"So she was what? A friend?" 

"Not exactly. We had a texting relationship." He explained

"So you hooked her up with weed?" Lily asked

"Like I used to do for you," he chuckled "Speaking of, you want some?"

"Give me some tomorrow," She nodded 

"Come on, Jackson, you can't really think I killed Maya," He laughed 

"I didn't, but knowing your brother I wouldn't put it past your family," Lily said and walked away from the youngest Kahn brother

To: Spencer

I have to leave but Noel has practice right now if you want to go through his locker

Lily walked out of the school building and headed home, in truth she could have stayed to go through his locker but she didn't want to get in any deeper with this.

Especially now that Caleb was involved, if she pissed off A anymore then she was certain Caleb would pay the price for it and she couldn't do that to him. So instead Lily spent her afternoon on a run with Caleb while Hanna and Emily went to the Kahn cabin to see if there was anything that might tell them what happened to Maya

"What's this?" Hanna asked as she picked up a pocket knife that had been in the bag she and Emily had found in the cabin

"Something for protection," Emily shrugged and took it, turning it over "Oh my god, look," Carved into the wooden case were the initials 'L.J' "Lily?"

"It could be," Hanna whispered

Lily had been halfway through eating her dinner when her phone rang so she excused herself from the table to answer "Hello?"

"I think Noel just sent me the security footage from his cabin from the night Maya died," Spencer said

"Are you serious?"

"Yeah, get over here,"

"I'm on my way," Lily told her mother and Caleb she was going over to Spencer's to do homework but when she got there her and Spencer sat down on her bed and Spencer continued to play the footage she had been given

For the first hour of it nothing happened and the girls were beginning to get really bored, but then around 10pm Maya appeared on the camera. She was wheeling her bike in and she looked scared of something or someone behind her

"Hey," Aria said as she walked into the room, Spencer had texted her about half an hour ago to come over and watch it with them. Aria perched on the bed with them "Why would Noel give you this video?"

"Watch," Spencer said and rewound to the first moment Maya entered the camera footage

"What does this mean though?" Aria asked

"It means Lily was right," Spencer sighed and the brunette looked confused, but Spencer just pulled out a case file from under her desk and opened it, reading off the page "'Key witness in the case against Garrett places him in the car with Maya at... nine p.m.'" 

"But that means..." Aria shook her head in disbelief 

"That Garrett was not the last person to see Maya alive." Lily smirked "So I've been right all along,"

Spencer rolled her eyes and hit play on the video, the girls didn't even blink an eye as they watched the footage roll. For a very long time nothing was happening, and then around 1am Noel and Jenna arrived at the cabin and went inside

And just as they went inside Maya walked away from the cabin, and the last they saw of her was her being grabbed by somebody outside the frame. They were still no closer to solving Maya's murder
