You used to say

I'm the only book in your library

And I had all my chapters named after you

All your adjectives were used to preceding my initials

All your poems rhyming with my name

Then how did we reach this stage darling?

When I have to search my name in your margins

And you have to check my footnotes for yours

Our love, once thought of as evergreen

Turns colors like deciduous now

With the leaves of our trust withering

The tree we once planted, nurtured

On the verge of wilting.
