Ostara woke up on Scott's second day of going back to high school and noticed a significant difference. She knew right away he had changed into a werewolf. One of the rarer ones though, not the type that has to kill to turn that is slightly more common. The type of werewolves that are born or bitten. There were a lot fewer of these and they rarely turned into real wolves, just half. Melissa surely wouldn't notice the change. She was still a young vampire and only knew the basics of supernatural creatures.

Ostara decided to give it a few weeks before confronting Scott. She wanted to talk to him before telling Melissa anything, Ostara hardly knew the full story from smelling the newly bitten werewolf on Scott. Plus, it was likely Scott didn't even know anything yet. If Ostara were to approach him while he was still transitioning he'd surely be overwhelmed.

Weeks passed and it was obvious Scott was beginning to hone his wolf abilities. Both Ostara and Melissa have gone to a few lacrosse games. All of which Scott won. He used to never leave the bench. Melissa was incredibly proud of her son. It made Ostara feel bad knowing that illusion would have to break eventually. Melissa tended to isolate herself when shocking information came her way. She needed personal time to process it all and think rationally while she works through her feelings. That way she didn't do or say anything she may regret.

A few months passed and Ostara finally decided to approach Scott about the subject. She didn't want to disclose her vampirism, afraid that she'd be telling Scott about Melissa's immortality without consulting her properly first. So, Ostara would just have to go with the painfully vague route.

"Scott, honey?" Ostara called after leaving a short knock on her son's door. Melissa was at the hospital working for a few more hours. Scott more recently got back from lacrosse practice. Ostara came home just a little bit before him.

"You can come in," Scott said. Ostara immediately opened his door softly and stepped inside. Maybe it was her manners or just the ingrained need for an invitation as a vampire, but she didn't like entering others' spaces without their permission. And Scott's bedroom was his place, Ostara always wanted to respect that.

Scott was laying on his stomach on top of his bed. A random comedy tv show was playing on the flatscreen television. Books and papers were strewn across his bed. All undoubted homework he had to get done. He was looking up at his stepmom with the innocent puppy eyes he almost always seemed to showcase on his face. Ostara found it absolutely adorable that he never grew out of that.

"I've known you're a werewolf. I've known for a while. I just want to tell you that I'm here for you if you ever need help with anything. I can't tell you exactly why I know about this yet. I want you to tell your mom by yourself soon, then we can all talk about everything. This is not going to be hidden from her forever, and I guarantee this is a much smaller deal than you probably assume it is," Ostara said. She tried her best to be comforting but to the point.
