Chapter 37

The whole time I am just crying silently, hoping and praying that Dark will get better. That our baby is doing fine inside my womb. I know, hindi dapat nai-stress ang isang buntis, but I can't help it. The father of my child is fighting for his life inside the operating room while here I am, got betrayed by my own friend. 

"Hi, I am Dr. Nemishaa Flores, an Ob-gyne." Lumapit sa amin ang isang maganda at morena na doctor. "You must be the one who's with Dr. Santos's patient, right?"

Tumango ako. "Do you have any news kung ano na ang kalagayan ng boyfriend ko?"

"Haven't heard any news, but I'm sure he'll be fine. Dr. Santos is one of our treasures here in our hospital." She said. "Come. Let's go see your baby's condition."

Tumayo kami ni mom at sumunod sa kanya. She led us to one of the rooms and gave me a hospital gown to change with. After changing, pinahiga niya ako sa hospital bed at pinataas niya sa akin ang gown hanggang mareveal ang hindi pa gaanong maumbok ko na tiyan. May kinuha siya sa tabi ng hinihigaan ko at kinalikot ang machine. 

"I'll be doing a fetal ultrasound to check your baby." She put a generous amount of ultrasound gel in my belly and start moving around the transducer. Iniharap niya sa akin ang monitor and start pointing something. "Oh, wow. You have twins. Look. This is your two babies. You're about 12 weeks pregnant already, and their size is more like the size of a strawberry."

"I didn't know that I'm bearing twins. Is my baby fine doc?" Tanong ko. "Baka naapektuhan siya sa stress ko."

"Your baby is fine and healthy. Malakas ang kapit niya sayo. Wag ka lang masyado mag papakastress dahil makakasama nga ito sa bata." Sagot niya. "Is this your first ultrasound?"

"Yes. My boyfriend doesn't know that I am pregnant." I sighed. "Sasabihin ko sana ngayon, but this incident happened."

She smiled at me. "Once he recovers, tell it to him immediately. I'm sure he'll be happy to hear the news. Anyways, reresetahan kita ng mga vitamins and milk. You should take this every day to maintain your's and your baby's health. You'll be meeting me every once a month for regular checkups."

"Thank you." I said. "Uhm, I know it's too much to ask but, can you call Dr. Santos and ask him about my man's condition? Hindi talaga ako matatahimik."

"Sure. Wait a second." Lumayo siya ng onti at nag dial sa phone. "Hello, this is Dr. Flores from the Ob-gyne department. I just want to ask, how is Dr. Santos's patient surgery?"

Their conversation lasts for more than a minute. Medyo lumayo pa ng onti ang doctor hanggang sa hindi na namin naririnig ang sinasabi niya. After a while, she hangs up and walks towards me.

"Dr. Santos already took out the bullet. They are now closing him up, and soon he'll be transferring in the recovery room." She tapped my back. "He's now fine. Go home. Change and take some rest. You need it." 

Tumango ako sa doctor. Hinintay ko na matransfer si Dark sa recovery room bago ako umuwi. His butler is here already kaya panatag ako na iiwan muna si Dark para mag pahinga. 

Dark look so pale at hanggang ngayon sinasalinan pa siya ng dugo para bumalik ang kulay niya. The doctor said, na baka tumagal ng ilang araw bago siya mag recover ng tuluyan. Other than that, wala na siyang sinabi pa.

Umuwi ako sa bahay to take some good rest. Binili na din ni mom ang mga vitamins and milk na nireseta ni Dr. Flores. Dad and Yuan are cooking in the kitchen ng kung ano anong healthy foods for me. Can I just say that I'm grateful to have them as my family? Kahit sobrang bigat ng pinagdaanan namin ngayong araw, we still have each other's back.

"Dad, is Nida still here?" I asked my father while they're cooking.

"No. Umalis na siya with her boyfriend." He answered. "I also call some bomb squad to defuse the bomb na nilagay ni Carmela."
