Lyn shook hands as was presented to the parents of her soulmates. They weren't such a large group, most of them had lost at least one parent to the Flare, but it felt as if a thousand looks were judging and analyzing her.
-It's a pleasure to meet you -she smiled, adjusting her hair again and shifting the baby to her other side.
They just smiled at her and gave compliments that didn't sound surprisingly fake. However, the minister of WICKED was not only observing her analytically but also seemed to be doing it with her son. They had all looked at him like that but Gally's mother seemed to be especially intrigued by Seth as she kept staring at him.
-We were also talking about how disappointing it is that your daughter isn't immune - Randall tried not to wince at this comment from Mr. McAvoy - and doesn't have any marks on her skin. We have heard high praise about her intelligence.
-And she is very beautiful -Mrs. Anderson added with a hint of envy and admiration.
Hayleen really did not like this conversation. It made her feel extremely uncomfortable and it was even worse because they talked about her as if she was not there in front of them under their gaze.
-Exactly. She would be perfect for our heirs. In fact, I'm surprised she's not the one in the prophecy. If you had had a child I'm sure it would have been like ours -Minho's father continued, smiling at Randall as if it were a compliment and not a conversation made to annoy him-. But you don't have it. And she would have been a perfect fit for the role that girl is supposed to fulfill. Surely with the power and influence (and money) of all of us together the world could not resist. Our children would be more than capable of fulfilling their role with her at their side -he said with a dreamy expression-. Unfortunately she is not that elusive girl-he quickly added with a look of annoyance and a frown.
-I can't wait for that girl to show up -Newt's mother sighed in frustration-. We have the document with the signature of our children and ours, the only thing missing is the father of their soulmate so that all of us can be united through her.
-I hope we find her before my son enters the maze. I really don't want to have to wait much longer. It would be helpful to find her this month, otherwise we'll have to wait until they come back or change the testing plans. It all depends on when we find her – that when not if, Lyn didn't like it at all.
-I'm sure my friends that you will. She cannot flee from her destiny forever and WICKED will find her sooner or later. Where is your son, Janson? So busy with testing again that he miss one of these events again?- Hayleen's father tried to change the subject, but saying it with malicious trying to annoy the other.
-Randall as you well know my son, unlike the others, is very busy fulfilling his role in WICKED. However, for your peace of mind, I can inform you that today he will attend at our insistence, after all it is the first party since the two years of the start of the tests and he could not miss it. It is also his last before he enters the maze next month and loses his memories. He's running late because he had to make sure that everything is in order with that boy who enters the trials today... Chuck I think it was his name -he added with a fake smile taking a drink from his glass-. Oh, here it comes. Thomas! -he called looking at a point behind Lyn.
