Talking to her sounded easy. Just talk out loud and hope that she feels bad enough to bother having a conversation. The only issue is that Jacob is the translator. He's the only one who can see and hear her and Carlisle doesn't exactly dumb down his questions to make it easier for Jacob to relay her answers. So, Jacob ends up having to paraphrase which makes the process two times longer than it should've been. By the end of it, he has a headache and the witch looks like she'd wished she'd chosen someone else.

"Do you know where the other witch is located and is she using a complicated form of hex or a spell?" Carlisle asks Jacob, the doctor's head bobbing as if he's some kind of elementary school teacher encouraging a student.

"So, where is she and what is she doing to me?" Jacob repeats.

"She's with Bella. You'll have to move her somewhere else and use a spell to get rid of her if you want the girl to live. She's trying to induce an early labor." The witch says with a warm, comforting smile that immediately falls when she sees the color leave Jacob's face.

"What'd she say?" Edward questions as he almost trips over himself. Jacob can hear the tap of his shoes as he rushes to the side of the bed in an effort to provide some form of comfort. Jacob sits there for a moment trying to catch his breath and he can feel the bed shaking with each jiggle of Edward's leg.

"She said that the other witch is with Bella. You're going to have to move Bella to get the witch out. She's trying to jump start labor." Jacob manages to ramble out before becoming silent again.

"Induce labor? The survival rate would be way too low..." Carlisle informs the group.

"She's not trying to keep the baby alive. Her plan is to remove the baby from you. That is all." Green eyes explains. Her tone is now harsh, her eyes narrowed.

"Why would Bella agree to killing...?" Jacob doesn't finish the sentence. He doesn't have to. He sees Edward's head bob up from where he was leaning towards him.

"She didn't. She just didn't read the fine print of the agreement she made. That's why she came running to you."

Jacob almost forgets for a moment that no one else can hear her.

"Bella made an agreement without knowing what she was agreeing to. She says she came running to us after she realized." Jacob manages to get out around the white noise in his head. Everything felt so muffled. He felt like he was wearing soundproof earphones. His vision doubled and then blurred.

"Jake!" Edward bellows, breaking through the cotton balls in his ears. Jacob looks over to see that Edward is even closer than he was before, hand gripping his shoulder and shaking him back and forth.

"Hey, maybe that's enough." He's trying to be soothing, but he's huffing and puffing and Jacob can hear the panic lurking in his voice.

Edward's emphasizing his breathing in order to get Jacob to mimic him while Carlisle is checking his vitals and seeing if anything was happening with the kid.

"I'm okay..." Jacob hears himself gasp, but it doesn't really sound like him. Sounds like he's been running for miles and swallowing rocks while he does it.

"Yeah, you should try to relax for the rest of the day." Carlisle says it like a warning even though his voice is soft.

Bella put both of their lives on the line. He threw himself at everything that came her way and she gave him up because he accidentally kept her baby alive. He was there when a witch was looking to play God.

His eyes distractedly find themselves back on Green Eyes and for the first time she looks apologetic. She looks like she finally has some self-doubt. Maybe she shouldn't have plucked the baby out and gave it to Jacob like some kind of toy. She does something else with her hands. Jacob takes it as her way of distracting herself from the guilt.
