Chapter 8/// Business

"Come on in," beckoned an unknown voice from within the office room.

I slowly walked towards the voice, regretting ever showing up to this place. It had just dawned upon me that I had brought no form of a weapon with me. If they tried anything, all I had for backup was my cheap little cell phone.

There was a big leather spinning chair with its back facing me, and a chipped wooden desk piled with papers.

"Have a seat," the man in the leather chair commanded.

I sat down in a chair across from him.

The chair slowly spun around to reveal a middle-aged man. What a pleasant surprise. I'd probably have to deal with another boss... and this one would be equally, if not even more intimidating than Mr. Douglas.

On the flip side, he was easy on the eyes, unlike my former employer. I'd be lying if I said he wasn't attractive.

"So, you lost your job at the Coffee Spot, and you want to make some quick cash, huh?" questioned the man.

I nodded in response.

"Alright. I am willing to make an offer with you. Do you want to work for me?"

"It depends on what type of work you are referring to..." I spoke.

"Well, I will assign you a job, and you'll do it. All of my employees know the drill; you don't discuss any information about the amount of money you are proposed or any of your assignments. You basically run errands for me," he explained.

I didn't want to push my luck, but I was also curious as to how far this guy would go to make me work for him.

"I know I'll be helping you run errands, but what's in it for me?"

"Well, you'll receive a paycheck for completing my errands, and that's a lot considering the fact that you're unemployed," he elaborated. "I realize that you're trying to uncover my true motive, so I'd like to put all your doubts to rest. I promise to help you get revenge on your parents and avenge your grandfather."

My eyebrows raised in interest. I was surprised he knew about my personal situation, but at the same time I wasn't. It's was not uncommon to meet people that Hank and Blythe had fucked over. That's probably why they worked so hard to maintain a good relationship with the few friends that still stuck around.

"Okay, but do any of your assignments deal with crime... like illegal stuff?" I asked, wary of his answer.

"That you'll have to decide for yourself. Now you either take it or leave it. I don't have much time to waste."

"What if I don't want to get into trouble with the law?"

"Then I'll let a couple of my guards escort you out of here however they please," the man said nonchalantly.

"Well it looks as though I don't have a choice, doesn't it?"

"Great," he smirked, "now just sign these papers and you're free to go."

"What's this contract for? I'm not a complete idiot you know."

"It just states that you must be under my authority for 3 months, and that I'm not responsible for any of your injuries that you may acquire while working, in sophisticated words. After your 3 months are over you can choose whether or not to stay with me."

I nodded and quickly signed the papers. After I was done I left the building and headed back home.

Once I was in the safety of my room I let out a breath I didn't know that I'd been holding.

What a day.
