Chapter 29///
Catch Me OutsideAs Mr. Baxter closed in on the library entrance, I checked to make sure I had all of my belongings before we exchanged our goodbyes.
I probably looked like a lunatic when I ran from the sleek, luxury edition Lincoln, but I didn't want Jess to know that I lied to her about having an Uber. If she was smart, she would have already came to that conclusion on her own.
Remember how I said I wouldn't be caught dead reading a book? Well, I'm sure that everyone around me could tell that I wasn't used to being in this type of setting. One librarian even gave me a pitiful look from afar. I must've looked like a lost puppy.
I spun around, practically in circles, for what seemed like forever until I finally spotted Jess in the corner near a neat row of computers.
"Oh, there you are!" I exclaimed, forgetting where I was for a moment.
I received a chorus of shushing in response. My eyes widened as an old lady strode over to me with pursed lips, and a tinge of anger behind her vintage bifocals.
"This is a respectable facility, and I refuse to tolerate any more disturbances from you millennials! If you aren't capable of showing common courtesy to everyone, I will gladly escort you out of here!" she scolded me. Although she couldn't raise the volume of her voice, she still managed to add a sense of severity to each word.
I had to apologize to the woman multiple times before she finally stopped bugging me.
"Sorry," I whispered sheepishly to my friend. I didn't understand why Jess want to discuss important information in a public place to begin with. Talking is forbidden here, which only leaves more room for me to make a fool out of myself in front of an audience.
I waited impatiently for her laughing fit to subside before continuing on. "Now, what do you need to talk to me about?"
By now Jess' expression had returned to normal, but I could still hear someone chuckling. I cocked my head to the side once I realized that a girl sitting nearby was the source.
"What's so funny?" I questioned.
"You," she answered.
I don't know who she thinks she's talking to, but she's messing with the wrong one.
"I'm sorry, but the last time I checked, I wasn't a mirror."
"Ha. You wish you looked as good as me," she laughed. "I'm a fucking queen, if I do say so myself."
"Oh, and I suppose Donal Trump didn't win the election."
Ever since that gloomy day in Novemer, I lost faith in our country. The scary part about it all is that most of the people we interact with every day voted for that hypocritical dipshit.
"I've got a black belt in karate, and I'd be more than happy to use my skills on you," the girl said as she loomed above me.
"Was that a threat?" I asked.
"No. That was a promise."
I in turn stood from my seat. We were the same height.
I laughed sadistically. If only she knew about what I'd been doing in London...
As I cracked my knuckles, I said,
"Try me, bitch."
