🚨 Smut Warning
I awoke and immediately recognized the sterile white room I was in. I was back in the med bay, but at least this time I wasn't handcuffed to the bed.
My head was once again throbbing. I looked myself over trying to figure out why everything else seemed to hurt as well. My left ankle was in a brace, there was a splint on my left middle finger, and my chin and both knees were scabbed over. I felt like I'd been in a car accident.
Remedy must've been watching for me to wake up on the camera, because she came into the room soon after I did. "How are you feeling?" she asked.
"Sore," I replied.
"You took quite a fall. It honestly could've been worse considering how hard you banged your head. Thankfully you didn't break anything, you've just got a couple of sprains, and some bruises and scratches. I brought you some medicine for the pain," she said, walking over and handing me the pills.
I swallowed them dry. "How long have I been here?"
"About six hours or so now? Maya helped me get you cleaned up, and I managed to get some x-rays. Darren carried you here after you knocked yourself out."
I shuddered, remembering the bloated dead body, the flies. I was fighting back tears. Unfortunately this wasn't my first, or even second or third for that matter, interaction with a dead body. This one was more unexpected though.
"Did, uh...did somebody get it out of there?" I asked, assuming she knew what happened.
"They're working on it, I think. It may be a couple of days, though, it's quite a mess. Midas forced one of the maintenance guys to climb in there after you came out, to find out what scared you so badly. He's not handling it so well, I hear."
Good. I hope it was that asshole from the roof.
Just then Maya opened the door and peered in. "Hey, you're awake. Are you ok?" She came and sat on the edge of the bed, stroking the back of my hand. "I started to climb in after you, but you shot out of there like a cannonball. We didn't have time to catch you," she said.
"Yeah, I guess I'm mostly fine, considering," I replied, gesturing at my injuries.
"Well, if you're up for it, Midas is asking to see you," she said, a knowing look passing between us at the mention of his name. I tensed up, suddenly nervous at having to see him for the first time since we hooked up, especially after what had happened today.
He's going to be pissed at me.
"Uh...yeah. I guess I can try to get up?" Remedy and Maya each held an arm as I attempted to stand. It hurt, but the ankle sprain was mild, and I thought I'd be able to walk.
Maya helped me as I limped along with her, arm slung over her shoulder, headed to Midas' office. I didn't really know what to talk about. I was still awkward about her finding out that I'd slept with him.
My nerves were increasing the closer we got. Maya seemed to sense it, and kept quiet for once, which I appreciated. I wasn't in the mood for jokes or small talk.
When we reached his door, she knocked, saying, "I'll be right here with you the whole time." I must've looked terrified. It occurred to me that I probably also looked pretty rough, all bandaged up, hair down and messy, and wearing the same white shorts and tank that they had put me in when I first got here. I hated for him to see me like this.
He was wearing those glasses again when he opened the door, and I lost my breath for a second. It didn't seem to matter what situation we were in, everytime I was around him I couldn't think, his mere presence threw my equilibrium off. He really was the most beautiful human being I'd ever seen.
