(Conversation between Lisa and Tanvi)
Lisa: I'm planning on telling my parents about my feelings for Arjun
Tanvi: have you gone crazy?!
Lisa: no. yesterday night I was taking to Arj and I realised I needed to talk to Amma and Nānna about this. I have felt if I don't I'm going to regret this for the rest of my life
Tanvi: what are you on about? What did Arj say to you?
Lisa: don't worry about it baba. I just really need to get this off my chest today. I was planning on telling my parents for a long time anyway.
Tanvi: fine do as you wish. But don't come to me crying if Arj doesn't love you.
Lisa: what do you mean?
Tanvi: that there is a chance that he doesn't like you back.
Lisa: did he tell you about liking someone
Tanvi: no he didn't but I'm just warning you because I know my brother a little bit better than you.
Lisa: okay. I want to ask you something though before we go tell them
Tanvi: what is it?
Lisa: when they look at you to see if I am telling the truth or ask you can you please just tell them when I first told you
Tanvi: I will but you owe me big time after this!
Lisa: fine. Come on let's go
(Lisa's confession)
"Amma, Nānna I need to speak with you. Come to the living room after you finish what you are doing," Lisa says
"What is it, Lisa?" Rishi asks
"Come into the living room I will tell you and mum there," Lisa replies
When her parents enter Lisa is looking tense so Rishi turns to Tanvi and says "why does Lisa look so tensed?"
"she's just tensed about how you're going to react when she tells you something," Tanvi replies
"what is it Tanvi?" Rishi asks
after thinking for a while Tanvi replies "she really likes annayya... in fact, she loves him."
"Lisa is this true?" Rishi asks
Lisa nods hesitantly.
Smiling Bhavi says "why did you not tell us before?"
"I wasn't sure mum. now I am," Lisa replies
(conversation between Arjun and Tanvi after Arjun arrives home)
Tanvi says soon as Arjun walks in "annayya I need to talk to you."
after walking into the other room Arjun says "what is it baba?"
after thinking for a while Tanvi replies "Lisa told her parents about her feelings for you. they asked where you were and I said you were at a friend's place but you need to tell them where you actually were and that you don't want to marry Lisa."
"okay clearly I was gone for too long. and did this actually happen while I was gone?" Arjun asks
Tanvi nods
(the family's discussion)
Arjun: peddamma and peddanānna Tanvi just told me about what happened before I have come home. I just want to know what you guys think
Rishi: Arjun we cannot tell you who to marry but I... both of us think it would be better if you marry Lisa. she really likes you as well. on top of that, both of you know each other very well
Bhavi: I agree. puls I think your mother would also want this.
Arjun: peddamma, Amma isn't alive right now is she? if she, herself was alive I may have agreed but she isn't
Rishi: don't speak of your mother like that Arjun! she loved a lot and only wishes to have you and Tanvi happy.
Arjun: and her wish is true Peddananna. Tanvi is going to a good university she has many good friends, she has an amazing professor, she's getting good grades, and she has an amazing family. and I am teaching at one of the best universities in the capital, I have an amazing family, a loving younger sister, and an amazing student who thinks much like me.
Rishi: your mother and father a month before they died said to me they would love to see you and Lisa married one day
Arjun: well...
Lisa (before Arjun could say anything): Arjun Please I love you I have for so long that I can't see myself with anyone else but you.
Arjun: I'm sorry Lisa but I have always seen you as a younger sister. I know you really aren't my real sister but it's always been like that and we practically grew up in the same house.
Lisa: Please Arjun
Arjun: No! for god sake Lisa do you not know the meaning of the word no?
Lisa: but...
Arjun: that was a rhetorical question don't answer that and one thing. peddamma, Peddananna and Lisa I will not break my promise to Tanvi to do what my parents wanted me to do more than 15 years ago.
Bhavi: what promise?
Arjun: yesterday morning on the way to Baba's university I promised her that I will marry a girl she approves of and likes. and she doesn't want me to marry Lisa and on top of that as I said before I have always seen Lisa as a cousin sister and nothing more.
Lisa: So you are saying no to me because of a promise you made yesterday morning?
Arjun: AND ARE YOU DEAF? I already said that I have always seen you as a cousin sister and nothing more.
Rishi: I have a feeling you aren't telling us something
Arjun: I went on a date today. the person and I have decided to start officially dating.
Bhavi: are you sure about it?
Arjun: yes.
