Random update alert.

Since I'm working on my romance story, I decided to read romance books as well to get a better idea of how to write characters/ chemistry well. Thus I searched up 'top 10 romance books' and one of them sounded REALLY interesting to me. It's called...

The Hating Game.

DUN DUN DUN.

I was thinking 'Wow cool a romance book title with 'hate' on the cover.'

The book was Enemies to Lovers (I prefer Best Friends to Lovers, but enjoy both tropes. Heck, I enjoy romance in general, torturing myself until the MC's confess their undying love for each other-), so I decided to read it.

And now I need to rant about it.

'He shoved me agaisnt the wall, grabbing my face. His smashed his lips into mine, slamming his body against me. We kissed passionately. It was amazing.'

Hey hey hey, I don't wanna hate on anyone, and they're young, right? Not really their fault. They're just trying out writing, so it's okay if they make mistakes.

But this book was published. Which means at least 3 people read it and did not bother to tell the author 'Hey you should remove this' (talking about the kissing scene btw).

Let me summarise the story for you (I'm not done reading it, I'm a quarter of th way in) MILD SPOILERS alert)

Lucy and Joshua work in same office. You should know, Lucy hates Josh.

The MC, Lucy, is small. Like very small. A tiny woman, and she won't stop talking about it.

She also won't shut about how much she 'hates Joshua Templeman'.

Honestly, I would've beleived her, if her sentences weren't like, 'I hate Joshua. So much. Here are 5 things about Joshua that wEts mY pAnTsu'.

Sounds like girl is just salty he won't bang her to me, but ok.

Lucy won't stop talking about how 'sekushi' the dude is, the 'muscles' under Joshua's shirt she wants to 'discover', how his large wrist is 'close enough for her to bite' (eek).

Lucy hates Josh because she smiled at him when they met but Josh didn't smile back. (Yes that is real reason, read the book if you don't beleive me). Then they start behaving rude with each other for no real reason, sometimes saying very pervy stuff to each other and reporting each other to HR.

One day Josh really pisses Lucy off, so she decides to wear a sexy short dress to work, for some reason.

That night, she has a dream where Joshua 'desperately' slams her, and instead of thinking 'what the hell' and forcing herself to wake up (beause she hates Josh), Lucy thinks 'DAMN HOT DADDY' and makes sure the dreams lasts.

Um ok.

The next day Lucy shows up at work with her sexy outfit, and then asks one of her colleagues out on a date to piss Josh. Josh asks her about the outfit ( while trying to contain an erection, lol, will elaborate later) and Lucy says she has a date. Josh doesn't beleive it, but offers to drive her to the location. They go in the same elevator.

Here's where things get... terrifying.

So in the elevator, Josh is holding Lucy's jacket, and Lucy says the jacket 'looks like a child's jacket in his arms.' Also Lucy thinks Josh is gonna kill her and has his 'serial killer eyes'. But then Josh sEXiLy forces her on the elevator railing and Lucy tells him to put her down (because she can't go down herself because she is so tiny).

Josh sExIlY pushes towards Lucy and she describes how hot he is ('his collarbone is like a crowbar under hand' or something,  hinting at her Large Manz kink). Josh slides his tongue into her mouth and explains How To French and warns 'Don't you dare fucking stop'. Lucy gets turned on.

I dunno know about you guys but I found this very scary.

So let me explain WHY I found this kissing scene so bad (as if it isn't obvious already).

1. No consent.

I explained how much I hate no consent way too many times.

2. 'DON'T YOU DARE F***ing STOP'

I found this pretty disgusting, because he was threatening her to tongue him back.

3. The buildup was bad?

I don't know how to explain this. But in the elevator Lucy describes that her jacket 'looks like a child's' in Josh's arms, and she suddenly feels terrified of Joshua ('serial killer eyes' 'he will kill me' 'clean my blood out of his shoes' etc etc).

And then they kiss?

 Um what.

4. I just didn't ship them

Lucy and Josh's relationship was just plain weird. Josh 'roasts' Lucy and sometimes even tells her to 'stop lusting for him'. Every time they touch it's shown in a vey lustful way, even though they're supposed to 'hate' each other from the moment they saw each other. Also they both reported each other to HR multiple times.

I didn't like the Insta Lust, the stupid 'hate' between them, and weird lines that indicated their erotic feelings.

Also, found Lucy very dumb. She says Josh sneaks glances at her fishnet stockings,  her exposed bra strap, and dude also makes jokes about Lucy lusting for him- and doesn't get that Josh doesn't really hate her?

Look, I hated some people in my life, but I can GUARANTEE you I had no lust for them. Um, because I really disliked them and didn't even like being AROUND them, much less bumping uglies with them (um yuck).

(Wattpad writers who write smutty Dramione and HarryXVoldemort fanfics: *takes out knife*)

End of rant.

I'll finish the book and let you know the rest.

(I have nothing against Sally Thorne and do not in any way claim to be a better writer than her.I just wanted to rant).

Have you read the Hating Game? Did you like it? (totally fine if you did, let me know WHY you liked/ didn't like it)
