BTP KABANATA 10

"You don't stop when you're tired, you only rest and regain more energy to continue," he whispered.

Satan brushed my hair. His hand was so light that I barely felt it. He let me hug him until I decided to pull away.

"Why brought you here? Do you need something?"

Umiling siya at tumitig sa akin. "You left this," he opens his palm, unveiling the highlighter he's holding.

"Oh..." sabi ko. "Thank you. Pasok ka..." I smiled at him.

"Is it fine with you?" tanong niya. Bahagya akong tumawa at tumango.

"Do you want anything?" "Ah... Sandali lang. I'll fix myself muna. Baka I look like shit that's why you're looking-"

"You look fine, Vera. Don't worry too much," he said, cutting me off.

Alinlangan akong umupo at tumikhim.

No one dared to talk.

And for some unknown reasons... I find it calming.

The silence.

I suddenly felt tired and drained. All I want right now is to sleep without overthinking. I want a nice and peaceful sleep just for once.

"I hope my presence somehow lightens your mood because I am not good with words. I'm sorry," Satan suddenly said. His voice was low, but I heard him.

I opened my mouth, but there were no words coming out of it. I rested my head on his shoulder. I felt him stiffed but slowly went back to normal.

"Inaantok na ako, Satanas. Balik ka na sa purgatoryo."

He hissed. "You and your jokes." I can almost see him rolling his eyes. "Sleep in your room, Vera. I gotta go."

I heard him groan, but he stayed still. Napangiti ako dahil doon. Satan... He can be someone you can lean on. He may not be as expressive as other people, but his actions never fail to amaze me. Even the little things he does flatter my heart.

He barely smiles, but when he does... I feel things every time he smiles.

"Vera, tulog ka na sa kwarto mo. It's getting late."

"Can you stay?"

Hindi siya sumagot.

"Please?" I pouted.

He sighed. "Okay."

He agreed to stay in my spare room next to my room. I gave him all the things that he needed to clean himself. I was smiling the whole time he was fixing my spare room. It was a little bit dusty.

Cute niya talaga.

"Go to your room. Your asthma might get triggered because of the dust," he ordered. I shook my head and stuck my tongue out, teasing him... again.

He rolled his eyes. "I thought you're sleepy?" his eyebrows were furrowed.

"Hindi na pala ako inaantok. I can pull an all-nighter pa nga," I proudly said. "And I don't feel like sleeping right now."

"You need to rest, Vera. Don't overwork yourself," pangangaral niya sa akin.
