XXXVII

*Juniper's Pov*

She smirked at me like a cat, bringing her finger up to her lips.

"Shh."

"Why now? Why!"

I half screamed.

I didn't get a response because just then Cainis came out.

"What the hell is going on?"

He demanded.

Shit.

He started walking this way to see for himself, I panicked.

I leaned down bringing my lips to her ear.

"Look, I'll help you just don't let them know who you are. You said I had more time than this."

I hissed the end.

She turned back around in my lap and fake cried.

Thanks for the help I thought.

I put on my own acting skills.

"We need to help her, I think she's in trouble."

Cainis knelt down beside us "What happened?"

I shook my head "I-I don't know. I was on my way back to the house and she came out of the woods all battered. When I came over to help she collapsed."

He sniffed her "She's human."

"I know."

"Okay, let's get her to Beth's."

He picked her up from my lap.

"Go let Princely and Lincoln know what's going on."

Even though I didn't want to leave her alone I did as he asked, hopefully she keeps playing along.

After what seemed like hours I was able to get away from everyone and their questions. I needed to get to Bethany's, quick.

"Juniper."

Bethany greeted. She was looking at me weird and I got scared.

Did she tell them?

I followed her to a room, I'm guessing where Lavinia was being kept.

"Where's Cainis?" I asked.

"He just left a few minutes before you showed up. He needed to get back and talk to Lincoln."

"Did he find anything out about her?"

"Yes. Apparently she was hiking and was attacked by a wild wolf."

She didn't sound like she believed the story.

"Is she going to be okay?"

The question was more for show, I knew she wasn't actually hurt.

"Definitely, it'll probably just be a couple of days."

We did nothing but look at each other for a few minutes. I felt like she knew something and wasn't saying. The ring of her phone broke the ongoing silence.

"Hello." She answered.

"I'll be right there." She hung up.

"That was Cainis, he needs me to come over for help with some decisions. Can you stay here with her while I'm gone?"

"Yeah."

"Thanks."

She walked out of the room and a couple of seconds later I heard the front door close.
