"Are you alright, miss?"
A golden haired boy, who had his beautiful hair tied neatly in a braid that ended near his waist, peered down at you. He held an umbrella over you to shield you from the snow. He sat down beside you, eager to listen.
"I got kicked out of my house by my parents." you replied, biting back tears. "My best friend, Kazuha, reported on me to them. I thought he considered me as family, but maybe he just hated me after all." you rubbed your shoulders with your arms in an attempt to keep them warm.
"I see- it must have been tough. I'm Aether. And you?" the boy asked. You debated talking further to him, but his kindness made you speak further without thinking. He was such a nice person.
"Y/N." you replied.
"Thats such a pretty name!" Aether smiled. "Y/N, you should go back. I'm sure they must be missing you by now, believe me or not. I used to hate my sister, but after she ran away from home, I started to regret everything. Thats why, you should go back too. If anything happens, then you can come to my place, and I won't mind you staying over. Its (address). Okay?" he finished softly. Something about his tone convinced you, and you nodded.
"Thank you." you got up from the bench. Aether nodded as he got up too.
"I hope everything gets resolved with your family and best friend. See you later." he waved and walked away into the traffic. You started walking the familiar way home as well.
As soon as you reached the door, your heart felt like it was breaking into a million pieces. You didn't have the courage to open it. You felt tears stream down your cheeks as you stood in front of the door.
"I'm going to look for her!" the door suddenly slammed open in your face, and your eyes met with familiar crimson ones. The corners of Kazuha's mouth turned up in a relieved smile, and tears formed in his eyes as soon as he saw you.
"Y/N . . ." he reached towards you, but you slapped his hand away from you, as you stormed in through the door. Your mother seemed to be sobbing uncontrollably, as your father rubbed circles on her back. As soon as they saw you, a look of shock and relief covered their faces as well, as they ran towards you.
"A stranger cared about me more than you did, so whats the point of all this anymore? Are we still family?" you mouthed and ran upstairs, locking yourself in your room. Your parents called your name from downstairs, but you didn't respond, or go back to them. You buried your head in your knees, and waited for time to pass.
Thump.
A sudden noise in the silence scared the wits out of you, and you looked towards the source of the sound to see Kazuha barely clinging on to your window sill as he successfully managed to climb inside. Your room was on the second floor, and not even the tallest ladder in your house could reach up to your window. Had he climbed the steep ledge on the side of the walls? That was suicidal.
"Y/N, I'm sorry. Its my fault. But can you please make up with (M/N) and (F/N)? They care about you a lot. You can hate me as much as you want but-" his speech was interrupted by you."Stop lecturing me. Still trying to be the good one?" you snapped at him.
"I-I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I don't deserve to talk to you right now. It may take you years to forgive me, or you might not forgive me, but I'm willing to wait. Its just- If you don't make up with your parents, you might not ever be able to make up with them again. Your mom is-" Kazuha tried to convince you.
You evaded the piercing glance of his ruby red eyes. Your heart lurched with pain every time you snapped at him, every single time you got upset with him. It felt like you were in the wrong, which was really unpleasant.
"Out. Now." you pointed at the door. Kazuha slowly sighed, and turned to step out of the room. You wanted to reach out and hug him, but your pride made you swallow your love back to a hollow part of your heart. You felt a twinge of guilt as soon as you saw what seemed to be tears in his eyes, and realized the weight of his words.
He was saying this because his parents were dead. Because he had so many regrets in his life. His words weren't empty. And by his words, you knew.
Something was happening to your mom, something that would send her exactly where Kazuha's parents were.
