Sakthi rubbed his sleepy eyes as he was woken up by the call from an unknown number so early in the morning. In his raspy voice he replied. "Illa avan thaan yen annan."
(No he's my older brother.)
"Inga kudunga phone ah!" He could hear some confusion going on in the background from the caller's end before he heard his brother's voice booming through the device.
(Give the phone to me!)
"Dei moondam, oru kelviku kuda unnala normal ah badhil solla mudiyadha?"
(Can't you answer one question like a normal person?)
Sakthi yawned loudly. "Ada kolapathuku porandha jenmame, kelvi ku badhil solradha pathi lam nee pesuriya? Illa neelam pesalama?"
(Look who's talking about replying like a normal person!)
Ashwin rolled his eyes. Not wanting to entertain his brother's rambles, he cut straight to the point. "Naa anga thaan vandhutu iruken. Amma ta sollidu."
(I'm no the way, let Mom know about it.)
"Romba nalladha pochu, apdiye yenaku oru King's packet (cigarettes) mattum vangitu vandhu kudu."
(Okay great then, get me a packet of cigarettes on the way.)
Ashwin frowned, shocked at his brother's audacity. "Unna indha habit ah vida sonnana illaya? Amma kitta seruppadi thaan vanga pora!"
(Didn't I tell you to drop this habit already? You're really gonna get a slippershot from Mom very soon.)
"Adhulam yengaluku yenna pudhusa bro?" He bragged.
(You talk like it's something new for me)
"Konjam kuda vekkame illaya da?"
(Do you not have any dignity?)
Sakthi chuckled loudly. "Damn adhu thaan namma family la yaarukumey illaye! Ippo for example, unna yeduthuko. Unaku konjamavudhu vekkam irundhuchuna andha Shalini vera oruthan ah love panren apdinu sonnapo ava sevullaye naalu vechitu andha veetu landhu kelambi vandhurkanum."
(Well nobody in our family has dignity. For an example, let's talk about you. If you were a dignified man, when Shalini confessed about having a lover, you should have given her a tight slap and walked off.)
Ashwin sighed knowing very well where his brother was heading towards. "But nee yenna panna? Nalla ukkandhu oru full bowl gulab jamun saptutu-"
