7: Parades

Pink and blue sew shut our mouths

The stone-cold stonewalls crumble at the violence

The progress made and the progress yet to come

The war is far from over

But the parades carry on

Categorise and organise

Hide the fear behind our eyes

Normality cannot survive without a divide

And we're on different sides

But take a closer look

The lines are not so clear

Self-inflicted silence paints a thousand words

Our scars are glossed over

Because the truth is often too hard to bear

Favour simplicity

Difference becomes the enemy

And irrelevance is the chaos we fear

What better symbol of chaos than the explosion

Of colour and life?

The blood long since covered in rainbow confetti

We want to believe the war is over

So the parades carry on

Scared on the streets, how did he get here so quickly?

Imprisoned by the expectations

He didn't know his identity was a crime

But difference has a single enemy: fear

The disease we are all born with

He should have stayed inside

Better to drown in self-inflicted silence

Than share his secret and bare his scars

He is the latest soldier in the war

But his plight is trampled by the thousands who march

Through the streets with no real purpose

Other than celebration

And the parades carry on
