6: When 'Tired' Doesn't Cover It

Swimming in a swirling haze

Of reminders and deadlines

And burnt-out days

Sinking

Yet clinging onto every breath

Falling

Into the ever-murkier depths

Alarm bells ringing

A constant cacophony of noise

And all you wish for is

Silence

Yet even in the quiet

The racing/crawling thoughts never stop

Motivation passes by

Overtaking you in the race against time

Satisfaction is elusive

And nothing heals your aching mind

'Tired' doesn't cover it

But it's the only word you know

Stress lurks under the surface

But who is in control?

And if someone asks you

You'll recite the lying lines

Fix the mask with superglue

And insist you're 'fine'

But 'fine' is far from truth

And 'tired' doesn't cover it

You lie somewhere in-between

Falling apart behind the scenes

But if you listen closely

And read between the lines

You'll find the truth slips out

And reality they will find

But it won't make a difference

Unless they travel back in time

For the pages are already burnt

The words long since faded

And your broken mind cannot recall

A time you didn't feel so jaded

And all the rhyming in the world

Cannot change a thing.
