10: The Feeling of a Mistake

A simple step is all it took

One wrong word

The last page in the book

Overflowing now with paper and ink

Cursing the ability to think

The consequence of life can be found

In the tears within which he drowns

A waste of time and space

Futile happiness is replaced

By stronger sensations

Buried for too long

Undead and hungry for blood

Spectres seep through the gaps

In the words he writes

And the words he can't take back

Zombified speech

Stumbles from his lips

A rotting brain too slow for his mouth

Body and mind freeze alike

Paralysed by watching eyes

Expectant faces and disapproving gazes

Pressure builds in the air

A weight he cannot bear

But cannot shift

For fear of what comes next

Slow seconds tick by

Sweaty hands as his mouth goes dry

Fingers twitch as nerves fire

Silently, he flees the scene

The words he expects ring in his head

Yet the worst are left unsaid

Searching for a place to hide

To wait until the fear subsides
