THIRD PERSON.
SATURDAY QUICKLY APPROACHED AND KATE WAS sat beside Corbyn in the backyard of the house, opposite ends of the couch that had been left there with drinks in their hands. Kate had her head resting on the back as she watched the boy stare into the distance whilst they were in silence.
"Did the guys not come?" Kate asked him.
"Nah," he shrugged, "they were busy."
"Oh." She paused, "okay."
After Corbyn nodded in response, they fell into another silence as Kate let out a sigh and glanced down to her drink, tracing the rim of the cup with her finger while frowning.
"I'm sorry." She spoke up again as Corbyn turned to look at her, "it was really rude of me to do that."
"To do what?"
"Break up with you then say not to contact me." She explained, "and unfollow you on everything, I'm sorry."
"..no it's fine." He shook his head.
"I unfollowed you because I didn't want to see you in my feed, not because I thought you were an asshole." Kate gave him a faint smile, "I was just trying to forget you happened."
"I get it." Corbyn gave her a nod, "it was a year ago, it doesn't matter, you're fine."
"I need to refollow you but it'll gain attention and I don't want that." Kate told him, "because Randy will get in on it and it'll cause this whole thing."
"I'm not bothered by a follow on Instagram, Kate." He smiled slightly, "I can live without you following me back."
"You might miss my comments." She shrugged and smiled, "I'm a very entertaining person."
"Just send me them through text."
"They might be much more explicit," the girl raised her eyebrows as Corbyn titled his head and rolled his eyes, "I bet you missed me."
"I did," he gave her a nod followed by a smile, "I did miss you a lot."
"I missed you." She said.
"Why do you have that rule of not dating anyone in the industry? Wouldn't that help you gain followers?" Corbyn folded his arms as he looked at her confused, receiving a shrug.
"It's just what I got told." Kate replied, "I would if I could."
"You could always do it secretly," he suggested, "but it would have to be extremely secret and you'd have to be very cautious about it."
"The only person in this industry that seems even the slightest bit tolerable is you," Kate told him, "the only person, everyone else just doesn't sit right with me."
"If you didn't have that rule I wouldn't suggested something by now." Corbyn nodded, "like a date or something. But I don't want Randy to catch on to anything."
"Dates can easily be made at home." Kate shook her head, "easy to keep or secret."
"Well I'm glad we're on the same page of our feelings if that rule wasn't there." Corbyn said, "that made me feel a little better."
"...Do you want to keep us a secret and just be whatever we want to be?" Kate suggested as she shrugged, "no sort of set boundary just.. whatever."
"So what would we be?"
"A fling, I guess." Kate replied, "until we feel ready to progress or something..? Then we can always tell people we're just friends because technically we would be."
"Hm... do you want to stay over tonight?" Corbyn asked, giving her a smile while placing his cup on the floor, "this party is getting boring."
"So that's a yes?" A smile grew on her face as she watched the boy stand up, adjusting his shirt as he glanced around the area.
"Offers expiring," he placed his hands on his hips, "it's a yes or no."
"The same goes for my question."
"Is asking you to stay over not enough?"
"You might make me sleep on the couch."
"Your expectations are so low," he raised his eyebrows, placing his arm around her shoulder and guiding her back into the house, "you'll sleep in my bed."
"You'll be on the couch?"
"I'll be next to you." Corbyn frowned.
"I don't have a change of-"
"My clothes fit you just fine," he shrugged, moving past the crowds of people as Kate stared at him with a small smile, "or sleep naked, your choice."
"You're so sweet." She sarcastically said as she let out a sigh.
"You have to get rid of that idiot though," he told her, "he needs to go, i'm not getting involved with him."
"He'll go, you're fine."
And as the pair wondered through the rest of the house towards the front door to leave and head back to Corbyn's place, they were unaware of the boy now walking up to the front door with his two friends behind him.
"How do you even know she's here?" Will asked Isaac, him and Caleb following behind the boy into the party, "is it your spidey sense again? Like you always say it is?"
"She's always at a party."
"But you're not dating so why does it matter?" Caleb frowned as Isaac replied with a shrug.
"She won't go on the date so I can ask her to be my girlfriend," Isaac turned to face them both, "she's too busy and keeps avoiding it, i'm trying."
"She's probably avoiding it for a reason," Will mouthed to Caleb, who nodded in agreement before they turned themselves back to Isaac.
The trio walked through the front door, stopping just after the door leading through to the living room as he looked in each group of people, figuring out which crowd she was most likely to be in.
Will and Caleb gave each other a shrug before they did the same thing, blocking his view from behind the two boys just as Kate and Corbyn left through the door to the living room and made their way out of the house, heading down the driveway.
"If she's here she'll be in the backyard." Caleb shrugged, "she likes that spot for some reason."
"By herself?" Will looked at him, "she'll be with a crowd of people."
"I know she's here somewhere." Isaac shrugged, continuing with his pace throughout the house to find the girl he was so obsessed with.
