Note To Self (Harry Styles AU)

Warning: Please Read

Before I start out the story, I would like to warn readers of the contents and what will happen throughout the story that some may not be comfortable reading about.

There will be situations that include:
• Foul language
• Religious practices and beliefs that will lead to discrimination against certain groups of people (homophobia and mild racism)
• Self harm (though there'll be no cutting)
• Graphic descriptions of sexual encounters
• The use of drugs and alcohol
• Domestic violence

If you are not comfortable reading about or have a history with any of the things listed above that may be triggering to you, read at your own discretion. I feel it's important to warn you ahead of time, but there will be no further warnings. I will not add an annotation at the beginning of a chapter in this story, I feel it ruins the reading experience knowing what's going to happen before you read it.

Some of the issues focused on in this story are things that I've experienced in my own life and I am not at all endorsing them or trying to glorify anything. A lot of the story comes from things I've experienced and are loosely based upon real-life events that have occurred from my lifetime. I realize how awful these things can be and as a witness to them I wouldn't want to make it seem as though it isn't a big deal, because it very much is. These things are used solely to form the story plot, nothing else. Domestic violence, self harm, mental illness, and alcoholism is not a joke and that isn't at all what I'm trying to make it out as. I will not be romanticizing these issues, they are not cute, they are not quirky, and they are not a joke. Again, they only are part of the story to help form the plot.

I would not recommend reading if you are under the age of 14, but I'm not your mommy so I can't tell you what to do. If you want to read it, go ahead. Just don't say I didn't warn you.

This is a work of fiction, hence why it's under the category "fan fiction," but I just want to point out that certain characters will be based off of real life people. The lives and personalities depicted are not based off the real life people, however. That is made up totally by me. All characters are made up, aside from certain ones sharing the same names and outward appearances as real people. Such as Harry. Because this is fan fiction. I am a fan. This is fiction. I am stating the obvious.

Most fanfics are written in first person point of view, meaning the story is told through one specific character's eyes, unless you cheat and notify the reader of a POV switch. The basic idea is that it's told as if you are experiencing the story through a specific character's eyes. I will not be doing that with this one. I will be writing from the third person omniscient point of view, which means the story will be told by a narrator. Kind of like a seeing eye watching over the characters. It gives me more flexibility and control over the story, while allowing me to tell what each character's thoughts and feelings are at any given moment. I can "head jump" from one character to the next, in a way. I originally didn't want to do this because I knew it was out of the norm, but if I were to write it from first person a huge portion of the story would be lost. First person just can't do this plot justice unless I did POV switches constantly, which would become irritating and eventually take away from the authenticity of the story being told. That is why I decided to step outside of the box and try my hand at third person. It may be a little weird for you to read at first if you're used to fanfics being told from first person, but stick with it and hopefully you'll get used to it.
