Chapter 1

"Meredith, wake up!" She heard Yasmine saying

Yasmine's Meredith sitter. The young girl was saving money for college by watching Meredith instead of Ellis

"Meredith, Carolyn will be here soon and I have school as well" Yasmine sighed as she tried to wake up Meredith

"No" Meredith muttered and was wheezing

"Ohno, not today" Yasmine muttered. She immediately knew Meredith's asthma was responsible for the wheezing "Okay Meredith, we're gonna nebulize, you'll feel better in a bit" Yasmine said as she lifted the tiny and small girl in her arms and grabbed the nebulizer

During the short treatment Meredith was still short of breath, she felt her lungs burning with each breath she took

"Shh, deep and clear breaths. You'll feel better in a bit" Yasmine rubbed Meredith's back

"Tired" Meredith whispered as she was unable to say much more until the doorbell rang

Yasmine quickly stood up and went downstairs

Meredith was upstairs whimpering in pain but the small sobs made her wheeze even more

"Oh honey, are you doing okay?" Carolyn asked concerned as she walked into the room

"Carolyn!" Meredith whimpered

"Oh hi honey. I heard you don't feel very well" Carolyn frowned as she heard the girl wheezing so immediately grabbed the oxygen mask that was laying next to the bed as this wasn't an unusual situation

"Amy?" Meredith whimpered

"Yasmine's watching her, Derek and Mark for a minute. Do you wanna come home with me today, I can call your mom to ask" Carolyn said, she did this sometimes as she knew Ellis was always in surgery and Yasmine had school herself

"Okay" Meredith whispered and fell asleep in Carolyn's arms

Carolyn waited a tiny bit longer for the weezing to stop before she carried Meredith downstairs

Meredith was eight years old but was so small and tiny that Carolyn had no issues carrying her. She carried the tiny girl to her car and said goodbye to Yasmine

Carolyn dropped off Amelia, Derek and Mark who were disappointed they hadn't been able to speak to her much

Carolyn drove Meredith to her own house, on the other side of the street from Ellis' house. She carried the little girl inside and took a seat on the couch with Meredith on her lap as she called Ellis who agreed that Meredith would stay for the sleepover

After a few hours Meredith woke up, she didn't immediately recognise where she was but the pain in her hips held her from exploring. Soon enough she knew she was in the Shepherds house

"Carolyn?" Meredith quietly asked

"Oh Meredith honey!" Caroly smiled as she saw the young girl was awake

"I'm tired" Meredith whispered

"Let's nebulize first, sweetie. Then we can watch a movie or you can sleep a bit longer"

Meredith nodded her head softly. Carolyn grabbed Meredith's medicine and had to held the nebulizer as Meredith was too weak to hold it herself

After the treatment Carolyn tried to lay Meredith back down but the little girl cried out in pain

"Hey sweetie, what's going on?" Carolyn asked

"My hips- They hurt" Meredith sobbed

"Oh honey let's lay you down in bed, that will be much better" Carolyn scooped Meredith into her eyes and carried her upstairs. She placed the little girl down in her own bed and covered her in blankets

"What did mommy-" Meredith asked and pushed herself up but started swaying

"Oh-" Carolyn quickly steadied the girl and helped her back in a lying position

"Aww" Meredith whimpered as Carolyn touched her collarbone

"What's wrong honey?" Carolyn frowned and lifted Meredith's shirt a bit, revealing a huge bruise

Carolyn was concerned, this could mean a lot of things but one thing she knew for sure, something was up

"Sweetheart, I'm gonna call your mommy once you're asleep. She might need to check you out" Carolyn softly brushed her fingers through Meredith's blonde hair

"Okay" Meredith sighed and closed her eyes. She was feeling exhausted and her body ached as if she had run a marathon before "Stay?" Meredith asked as a few small coughs left her tiny body, leaving her chest with burning pain

"Of course I'll stay" Carolyn assured the girl "Just close your eyes" Carolyn whispered

It didn't take long until Meredith had fallen asleep, Carolyn had grabbed her stuff to start knitting as she didn't wanna leave the girl that was shivering in the big bed

Carolyn had covered Meredith with Amelia's unicorn blanket, the two girls usually curled up in it together. A heating pad was resting against the back of Meredith's small and tiny body to make sure she would be warm enough

A few hours later Amy, Derek and Mark had arrived back at the house, they had taken the school bus as Carolyn didn't wanna leave Meredith by herself

Once their homework was done they joined them in the big bed and started watching a movie so Carolyn sneaked out for a minute so she could call Ellis again who was in surgery earlier

"Dr Grey, hi! Meredith isn't feeling any better. I also noticed a bruise on her collarbone, she's feeling very tired and was wheezing a bit earlier" Carolyn explained

"I noticed her asthma is flaring up again but she hadn't told me about that bruise. She probably fell while playing outside, this hasn't been the first time but I'll check her out. Joint pain again?" Ellis asked

"Yeah, she complained about her hips earlier as well" Carolhn added

"Thanks for calling. Can she stay overnight, I have a few surgeries" Ellis asked

"Of course, I'll take care of her" Carolyn nodded before walking back into the room where she saw Meredith and Amelia, both eight years old but Meredith was a lot smaller, curled up and buried under the unicorn blanket asleep while the two boys were watching the movie

"Meredith's staying the night" Carolyn told the boys

"Yaay!" Mark cheered

"I hope she's feeling better soon" Derek smiled

"She'll be fine" Carolyn tucked the two girls in and kissed both boys' heads
