Tw: mention of suicide
TIME JUMP
"Doctor Sloan?!" One of the interns ran to him. "Doctor Bailey asked if you could stitch up a 13 year old girl after she attempted to commit suicide." An intern said
"Of course." Mark nods and immediately walked to Bailey's OR to scrub in. He always remembered when Meredith attempted suicide 12 years ago. Luckily her family supported her through her many dark days
"Markie!" Amelia ran up to him. "Have you seen Mer today?" Amelia tried to keep up with his pace
"Duh, we share a house." He rolled his eyes and checked his watch. "She should be working now." He nods and entered an OR
Amelia was on break and she wanted to spend it with Meredith today. She took the elevator to the laboratory floor
"Hey!" Amelia bursted inside where Meredith was always practicing. "Hey, where was my invitation??" Amelia laughed as she saw her sister and Addison, their redhaired friend and Mark's girlfriend
Mark and Addison were both first years attendings. Mark went into plastics while Addison was into neonatal. Meredith and Amelia were both doing their internship, only difference that Meredith couldn't operate and was doing lots of research instead
"I was gonna bring you, but as always I was just too late." Meredith laughed and walked from the desk to where Addison and Amelia were waiting for her.
"Are we having lunch in Dad's office or cafeteria?" Amelia suggested
"Can we have lunch here?" Meredith asked the girls
"Well I have a surgery, I'm sorry!" Addison jumped up and left the room
"Damn I watched Nelson perform such an amazing surgery!" Amelia started telling as she turned around on the desk chair
Meredith grabbed her bag that was next to her on the couch and grabbed her bottle of water to take her meds
"Oh, I have to go! Emergency!" Amelia stood up, abandoning the chair and running off
Meredith chuckled a bit. She was used to seeing Mark like this ever since he was an intern. The two shared a house. She lived on the ground floor while he had the first floor all for himself. It was just easier to share rent and it was nice for Meredith to have someone around on bad days
She was doubting to go see her parents but she wasn't really feeling it to head all the way up to PEDS as she would need her wheelchair
Today she was bearing her braces so she could walk small distances in her office but she had forgotten to bring lunch
So instead of getting in her wheelchair she decided to hook herself up for just a tube feeding. She got everything ready and started the machine that was now dripping pumping the liquid directly into her body
Meredith grabbed a book but didn't open it. Instead she rested her head against the pillow and decided to rest instead
"Meredith? Mer?" She suddenly heard her mom's voice and lifted her head
"Mom, hi!" Meredith smiled, not able to hide her exhaustion as Carolyn was too familiar with Meredith's behavior
"Amy said you wanted to have lunch here, so I decided to join you, if that's okay?" Carolyn asked and placed lunch on the table
"Of course, mom." Meredith nods
"I haven't seen you head out so I brought us some bagels." Carolyn opened the bag and handed one to Meredith
"My fave.." Meredith smiled despite the exhaustion that slowly started taking over
"I know." Carolyn softly smiled. "How long do you have left before you go home?"
"An hour.." Meredith replied
"Why don't you go home after lunch? I can take you home." Carolyn suggests
"I'll be fine, mom." Meredith tried to assure her
...
Meredith wheeled inside her house. She opened the door and wheeled straight to the couch and transferred from her wheelchair so she could finally lay down
She didn't bother to strap out of her braces. Instead she just collapsed underneath a blanket and fell asleep
She had no idea how much time passed by when she heard Mark arriving home
"Markie?" Meredith frowned as she felt him undtrap her from her braces
"Hey, I'm sorry. I didn't wanna wake you." He said
"It's okay. I had to get up anyway." Meredith nods and pushes herself upright. "Shit, 7pm already?" She frowned at her watch
"Yes. Have you been here since the end of your shift?" He asked with a frown
"Yeah.. I think I'll see what Mom put in the fridge." Meredith said as she didn't feel like cooking
"Wanna have dinner together? Addison is still working." Mark suggested
"Sounds good." Meredith nods
"Let me get dinner, I'll be back soon." Mark said and left to the kitchen
Meredith turned on the tv, something she had a love-hate relationship with. She spent so many hours in her life watching the tv because sometimes it was all she could do.
"Lasagna okay?" Mark returned a while later with two bowls and cutlery. He handed one bowl to Meredith and took a seat next to her
"Perfect." She nods and slowly starts eating a bit but stopping after a few bites
"Not tonight?" Mark sadly smiled as he saw his sister wrapping her arm around her own stomach
"No.." Meredith shook her head and placed her plate back on the table
"Let me grab your tube feeding." Mark immediately stood up, placing his plate on the table and getting everything ready for Meredith. "Here, so you stay warm." He finished with covering her with a blanket to keep her warm
"Thanks Markie.." Meredith softly smiled and tried to stay awake as her brother went back to eating but after only a few minutes she drifted off, finally able to rest after a busy day
