Chapter 32

"Mer, wait a minute sweetie." Carolyn said as Meredith complained about her hips so she was looking for Meredith's pillow  

"But it hurts.." Meredith whispered from her wheelchair

"I know, sweetie.." Carolyn was devastated and kept looking through the boxes. "Mark, Derek!"

"Mom?" They ran into the room

"Boys, I need you to help me look for Meredith's body pillow." Carolyn instructed

"But mom-" Mark whined but started looking anyway

"Mommy-" Meredith's lower lip started trembling as pain increased

"I know sweetie.." Carolyn sighed and lifted the girl in her arms. But that also meant she couldn't search any longer

"Aww-" Meredith whimpered as Carolyn accidentally touched the little girl's hips

"Mommy! Mommy!" Amelia ran in but gasped as she saw her sister in so much pai

"Amy, sweetie. Can you go get daddy for me please?" Carolyn asked while trying to remain calm so no one would start panicking

"Okay.." Amelia nods and went to get her dad

"I found it!" Derek pulled the pillow out of one of the boxes

"Thanks Derek, can you lay it down on Meredith's bed please?" Carolyn asked and followed

Derek placed the pillow down as Christopher walked inside. "Thanks guys, we'll come out in a bit."

"She's been in pain." Carolyn explains and tries to put Meredith down as comfortably as possible but the girl whimpers in pain as her body is placed onto the mattress. Christopher adjusted the pillow and helped where possible. "I'll stay here with her until she's asleep." Carolyn told her husband

"Let me grab you her meds and then I'll go see the kids and assure them it will be fine." Christopher nods

Hours later the kids were playing. Carolyn was sitting down on the couch with Meredith and Amy as the girls played with their dolls while the boys were playing on their playstation

"Mer, you wanna try to play?" Derek asked her as he took a seat next to her

"Can I?" She smiled and nodded

"Here Amy, you play as well." Mark passed his controller as well

The two girls played the game assisted by the boys and the two adults smiled.

"We made the right choice." Christopher robbed Carolyn's thigh

"I hope we did. I'm glad she's doing better since her nap." Carolyn cuddled into her husband's side

"She's looking a lot better already." Christopher agreed

"Yes Mer! You're winning!" Derek cheered her on

Meredith was very happy. It wasn't often that she could join with what the kids were doing, and on top she usually was the one who lost so being the best for once felt amazing

"Mer, you were amazing!" Amelia gasped. "I wanna try again!" The brown haired girl said as she was pretty competitive

"Another time. I think it's time for some fruit!" Carolyn smiled and got up. "Who wants to help me in the kitchen?"

"Me!" Amelia jumped up. "And Mer!"

"Mer, are you feeling up to helping me?" Carolyn asked as she saw the little girl was drooping a bit in her chair

"Not really.." Meredith quietly admitted

"But Meredith, it will be fun!" Amelia tried

"Let me help instead of Mer." Derek stood up and followed his mom and sister to the kitchen

"Wanna play once more?" Mark asked Meredith

"I'm a bit tired.. Can I watch you play?" Meredith asked

"Sure!" The boy smiled and started playing again while Christopher stuffed her up with some pillows so she could drift off in case she felt the urge to

"Thanks Markie." Meredith smiled and watched carefully how his fingers moved over the controller and then watched what the characters on the screen did in return

"Do you like video games?" Mark asked her

"I do." Meredith admits with a soft smile and kept watching her brother until the others returned with the snacks

"Mer! I got you bananas and watermelon!" Amelia ran towards her sister and placed the bowl down

"Thank you." Meredith nods and grabs the fork

All the kids plus parents were having their snacks. Meredith didn't eat much so Christopher adjusted another round of the tube feeding to make sure she'd start gaining some weight as she was way too tiny. The other kids had run off to go play

"Daddy, it makes my stomach hurt.." Meredith whispered

"I know sweetie, but it's really really important. Do you want some cuddles?" He asked her

"Yeah.. please." Meredith nods her head softly and Christipher picks her up in his lap. Carolyn adjusted some pillows so she would be comfortable

"Close your eyes, maybe when you're awake you and the kids can play some more on their playstation." Carolyn stroke her fingers over the girl's pink cheeks
