How would you like it if I started writing this story in 1st person?

"Congratulations Mr. Barnes, it's a girl!" Shuri exclaimed. "Or in other words James Buchanan Barnes is the biological father of Rose Romanoff."

Steve clapped Bucky on the back, the girl he had come to love as his own, the daughter of his love was also the daughter of his best friend. He wasn't sure how he was supposed to feel about this particular situation, but he was happy to (most likely) be co parenting with his childhood best friend.

"Man, believe me when I tell you I'm glad I don't have to raise that girl. No offense Rose, but raising such a strong headed teenage girl as a single dad..." he stopped to fake shudder, "No thank you." Sam joked.

"Congrats on not being an orphan!" Tony exclaimed with a joking voice. Rose could see the pain behind his eyes and the realization hit her, harder than before. Her mother, the one thing in her life she could rely on to always be there, was gone.

Her throat closed as she ran from the room.

Peter looked at Tony with shock before standing and rushing after her. Before he got to the door both Steve and Bucky had a hold of his arm.

"Give her a minute."

"She is going to need time to herself."

"Tony, I know you are still upset about what I did thirty years ago. You have every right to be, I'm not even going to ask for forgiveness, what I did was unspeakable."

"Buck, it wasn't your fault you didn't have control over-" Steve was cut off.

"That's not the point. What I'm getting at is that I committed the act, me alone. Rose had absolutely nothing to do with it so don't you dare take this out on her. Do you have a kid?" Bucky asked Tony.

"I... don't know if I feel comfortable sharing that-" He was promptly cut off by Pepper.

"Yes, we have a daughter named Morgan." Tony glared at her.

"God, I feel like I'm lecturing a kid."

"You practically are." Pepper responded.

"Okay, can't believe I'm doing this, imagine instead of Shuri coming to your rescue you died and hours after Morgan finds out your dead I go rub it in her face."

"I really got to learn to think about the things I say before I say them."

"You need to learn impulse control." Pepper said.

"I'm a grown man I can do what I want."

"Tony, Rose is a child and yet she has gone through  far more than you could ever imagine. Now, I'm  not telling you to go easy on her or baby her, believe me she doesn't need that, but please don't make things harder for her." He turned to Peter. "Go ahead son."

Peter wasn't sure where he might find her so he started wandering the sterile white halls. It didn't take him long to find her, she didn't go far after all.

"How come it's always you who comes to check on me and not someone who is morally obligated to such as Steve whom is practically my stepdad, Sam whom I've lived with for almost a year, or even my father James?" She was sitting against a wall, hugging her knees against her chest.

Peter didn't say a word, he simply sank down to her level. He didn't break eye contact for a second.

"You're really pretty. Like really really pretty."

"Is that supposed to make me feel better about my dead mom?" Rose let out a wet laugh.

"Sorry, I just noticed you're really prett- sorry."

"I didn't mean it like that. Thank you. You're pretty too." She wiped a tear from the corner of her eye.

"I'm not going to pretend like I know what you're going through... but yes, I am. Well, see, I lost both of my parents and my uncle Ben."

"I'm going to be fine. I've been through a lot, worse? Depends on the context."

"Like what?" Peter asked.

Rose just shook her head and looked away.

"Rape, tourture, if we stay in touch maybe I'll tell you one day Pettie."

Neither of the said a word as they listened to boot clad footsteps approach.

"Hey." Both Peter and Rose turned to see who the foot steps belonged to.

"Can me and Rose have a private conversation?" Bucky asked.

"Yeah, of course Mr. Barnes." Peter nodded a goodbye and left.

"Look, I'm not quite sure how to say this but I am going to try my best." He squatted  down to be at her level.

"Skip the formalities Barnes, cut to the chase."

"Well, I'm trying to figure out how to put this thought process into words." He took a long pause, "I'm your father."

"I know that."

"In the Red Room, I did my best to take care of you. Even then I felt like I had taken on a fatherly role, or tried to at least."

"I'm surprised you remember that. And yes, you tried to the best of your ability to protect me. You even gave me a Rose every birthday you could, you thought it was funny."

"I know you would be more comfortable living with Steve but, I was wondering if you would like to attempt to live part time with me. Once I find a place and settle in. It's all up to you of course, just tell me when you make your decision."

"Yes."

That wasn't the answer he was expecting. Rose didn't know him well, after all she had only really known him as the Winter Solider and a prisoner of the Red Room. He was a different man, he wasn't James as her mother was no longer Natalia, as she was no longer Dimitriovna Romanova. He was simply Bucky as her mother was Natasha and she was simply Rose. They were almost completely different people after the Red Room. All of them, the other Widows included. She wanted to give Bucky Barnes a chance to be her father. She has nothing left to loose.
