Humans have material body as well as immaterial mind. Our souls exist both before and after we are born. It is made up of reason, bodily appetite, and volition.

But man (human in philosophical terms) is also said to be a "being in search of meaning."

Human nature is social in nature. In our essence, we are not self-sufficient. Others are needed. We derive pleasure from social connections. That, in truth, our connections give us purpose.
