THE GROUP RAN until they were exhausted. Rachel steered them away from traps, but they had no destination in mind ─ only away from that dark mountain and the roar of Kronos. They stopped in a tunnel of wet white rock, like part of a natural cave. Endora couldn't hear anything behind them, but she didn't feel any safer. Even if she did, her mind was too preoccupied with things she just saw.

She saw Luke, but not Luke, that was not the Luke she knew ─ she used to know. The only question was ─ why? Why had he done such a stupid fucking thing and let himself be drawn in power of Kronos. He was always sweet with her, helping her whenever she asked and now, she watched as her former friend let himself loose to the bad side.

"I can't go any farther," Rachel gasped, hugging her chest.

Annabeth had been crying the entire time they'd been running. Now she collapsed and put her head between her knees. Her sobs echoed in the tunnel. Endora, panting and gasping for air, sat down next to her best friend, rubbing her back soothingly. Nico and Percy sat next to each other. He dropped his sword next to the raven haired boy and took a shaky breath.

Endora's brain raced. Her brother was really on the other side of this war and there was nothing she could do to get him back. He was not the same boy she met when he arrived at the Camp two years after her. He was not the same boy who had a smile on his face when their mother claimed him. He was not the same  He was one of the boy who she thought Greek every Tuesday and Friday. He was not the same boy that practiced spells everyday. He was not the same boy that would experiment with different potion recipes and give them to Stoll brothers to try. He was not the same boy who used to braid her hair every night before bed. He was not the same boy anymore.

Now, the girl could see why the boy held so much hatred towards gods ─ they were never there when they were needed the most. But, he didn't have to turn to Kronos' side; nothing better would happen.

"That sucked," Nico said, which Endora thought summed things up pretty well.

"You saved our lives," Percy said.

Nico wiped the dust off his face. "Blame the girls for dragging me along. That's the only thing they could agree on. We needed to help you or you'd mess things up."

"Nice that they trust me so much," Percy commented.

"Always, Water Boy," Endora's voice was horse as she spoke. "Nico. . . you, kind of gave yourself away."

"What do you mean?"

"That wall of black stone? That was pretty impressive. If Kronos didn't know who you were before, he does now ─ a child of the Underworld."
