The last two weeks had been one of the longers two weeks of Camilla's life.
Unplugging Jaehyun was the last thing she wanted to do. But it was his choice. She even had to fight his family on it.
Camilla walked onto the recovery floor, standing outside of Jaehyun's door. She had changed into a fresh pair of clothes and showered, which she hadn't been able to do the last two days. Brandon wouldn't let her visit Jaehyun until she had taken a break and went home. He wouldn't let her step foot in the hospital until she had recovered mentally.
After staying home for 72 hours (She did indeed set an alarm for 71 hours, spending the last hour getting to the hospital), she had finally braced herself to face him.
"Camilla...are you ready?" Brandon asked, walking over to her. She looked up at him, nodding softly.
"Now remember... He doesn't look the same. He's got wires and stuff-"
"I know" She whispered, her voice cracking. She gulped, hydrating her throat.
"Whenever you're ready." He encouraged. She hovered her hand over the door handle, fear instilled in her body. He put a hand on her shoulder.
"You want me to go in with you?" he asked. She let out a small sigh of relief.
"I'd like that" She whispered. He showed a sad smile, grabbing her hand and pulling the door open.
Jaehyun lay in the hospital bed, and just as Brandon said, it wasn't him.
Of course, it was him physically, But he wasn't there. His usual bright-brown orbs were closed, covered with dark circles. His usual smile, his dimples so prominent... They no longer existed. Instead, a large tube gouged his throat, connected to the machine by his beside. Wires that were connected to other wires all over his body. Some in his arms, a few in his shirt.
Camilla sat down in the chair, her mouth agape. She grabbed one of his hands with one of hers, surprised to feel how cold and lifeless it was. Even her usually cold hands were good enough to warm his.
"He's doing alright. I mean he hasn't coded in the last few hours, which is new." He said. Too busy studying his lifeless body, Camilla didn't respond. She would give anything to just see him teasing her in the hallway, softly caressing her hand as he walked by so that no one would figure out their secret relationship.
"H-how long has he been unconscious?" She asked. Brandon sighed.
"He never woke up after the surgery," Brandon mumbled. Camilla blinked away tears. "So...About 3 days." He mumbled, earning a nod from her.
"12 days" She whispered.
"What?"
"12 days... He said that if he had ever been unconscious after 12 days, he'd like to be unplugged." She explained. He raised an eyebrow.
"Did he put you down as his medical proxy?" He asked. She looked up at him.
"We talked about it once... I'm not sure if he was serious about it" She explained. He nodded.
"I'm going to call his lawyers and look into his hospital papers. Maybe I can contact him and see who he has listed as his proxy" He said. She nodded.
"Call me if you need anything," Brandon said before walking out of the room. Camilla looked over at Jaehyun, not being able to contain her tears anymore.
"When I said I'd unplug you if I had to, I didn't mean that I was going to do that now, Jung" She joked, wiping tears from her cheeks. She placed a hand in his hair, slowly running her fingers throughout his chestnut brown hair, which had not been touched in a while.
