Chapter Twenty-Seven

Yujin parted her arms, dropped the three bodies behind her--taking a wide stance. In the time it took her to disperse the attacks, Woojin threw Yuri into a portal behind him.

"I think I'll kill these four. Just to send a message."

Armed with a sword from his fallen comrades, Woojin rushed Yujin with a wide smirk on his face. Before he could make contact with the girl, a sheet of paper blocked the attack.

"Tsk."

Before the owner of the paper sheet could arrive, Woojin summoned a portal below him, instantly sucking him into the ground.

"Yujin!"

Kami appeared next to Yujin with a worried look on his face. Immediately after arriving, Kami surveyed the room.

"Woah- What happened here?"

Yujin looked around, breathing heavily.

"I-I don't know... I was cornered with Yuri ssi before Oppa appeared. He went berserk like in Placements and killed a bunch of people. Suddenly, a bunch of more people appeared and knocked him out. One of them took Yuri ssi before disappearing."

Kami sighed, "Yuri ssi was here? I should have known... Can you describe the allele of the person who took Yuri ssi?"

"He," Yujin rubbed her head, "He seemed like he could go invisible. That can't be because he fired multiple elemental attacks. A portal opened below him before he disappeared though, but I'm not sure if that was his doing or another person's."

"He was here... That aside, how are you feeling? You unlocked your energy after all."

Yujin's eyes widened, "I did?!"

"Yeah. Everything seemed slower and you could use your allele easier, right?"

Yujin nodded, "Yeah."

"Those are the signature signs of unlocking your energy. From here on, you'll be able to use your energy more easily. It'll just be significantly weaker until you build it up."

"I see... Are the others safe?"

Kami nodded, "I just need to take care of Gaeul's wounds and I'll be able to take us home."

Resting atop the grass outside the run down building, Yujin couldn't help but stare at her unconscious brother. Chatter filled the areas most of the other students. Sitting with Yena, Chaewon talked with her teammates while Gaeul sat in front of Kami who tended to the former's wounds.

On the other side of the group, Eunbi rubbed her forehead, gritting her teeth.

"I should have known..."

"It's okay, Unnie," Hitomi comforted the older girl, "There was no way for you to tell for sure. Plus, Mr. Shin stepped in last minute so everyone got out relatively unscathed."

"To be fair," Minho reasoned, "It's reasonable for you to think that either Tomi or I were on our way to take care of it. You did say you felt screams so if one of us were in the area we would have rushed to the site."

"But because I didn't do anything about it, Gaeul was injured and Y/n was been unconscious since."

Hitomi rubbed the eldest's back, "Don't be too rough on yourself, Unnie. There's only so much you can do."

While Eunbi continued to sulk, four large paper birds appeared before the students. On their way home, Yujin held Y/n in her arms. Despite the instructor's comments that he is healthy, Yujin couldn't help but shake the uneasy feeling in her chest.

Please wake up soon, Oppa...

After dropping the students off at the capital, Kami flew to a nearby town, landing in front of a tavern. Inside, Kami waved toward the tavern keeper who gestured toward a line of rooms. Without hesitating, Kami approached the first of many doors, knocking.
