a love platonic

i know it's naive of me
and you'll think me pedantic
to simply ask to be your friend
we can forego the romantic
i have so much good will toward you
and hope you'll come to see
i want to be a friend to you
and you a friend to me

i wish to go on walks and talk with you
and take you out for lunch
share my favorite things to do
and the places where i go a bunch
i want to give you little gifts
i buy right when i see them
just because i think of you
and for no other reason

i don't want to get in your pants
or make you feel uncomfortable,
just want to share our thoughts and rants,
and ask... what rhymes with uncomfortable?
or maybe what you're reading now,
or what i should read next,
share a little song with you,
or send you a simple text

so the time has come for me to ask
in no uncertain terms,
can we leave the past behind
or am i food for worms?
a word is all i ask of you,
just one will do today,
should i still try to be your friend
or turn and go away?

I'm no scholar of philosophy, but I am fascinated by Plato, Aristotle and Pythagoras' thoughts in friendship and love. I think they were all right for those who adopt any one's way of thinking or nomenclature. To make sense of my feelings and my relationship to others, I find serenity shifting between them as need be.
