lenses focus beams of brightest light,
but through shine, too, lesser rays and truer sight

My vision seems to get worse by the day, but I've noticed that a lens doesn't just let the light through that you want it to, it's let's it all through, and it goes both ways. We have all seen optical diagrams showing some object being magnified or flipped, but what we forget is that everything else passes through that lens as well, transforming and distorting to varying degree. Sometimes it's what wasn't intended that is most valuable or beautiful, and sometimes it's what is seen by the person on the other side of our lens that reshapes everything.
