Chapter Seven

You took advantage of your early day off to go out and go to the club with some of your friends. You never had time before, but now that you had a third person in your investigative team, you found yourself with freetime.

"Hank, I'm heading out!" You yell, bending down to say goodbye to Sumo.

"Alright." He responds back from the kitchen. "Don't stay out too late." He says, making you feel like a teenager again. He was very caring, he just had his own ways of showing it.

"Yeah, and you don't get too drunk." You say in retort.

"Planning on it." He responds back, you unsure if he meant he was planning on getting too drunk or if he was planning on staying somewhat sober tonight.

You leave the house after finishing your goodbyes to Sumo and head out, ready to have a relaxing night.

.

You had a good time, and decided to return home a little before 9 so you could finally have a long night's rest of sleep. You'd only had a small bit of alcohol just in case you'd have to take care of Hank.

Upon approaching your front door, you hear muffled yelling, though you think it's just Hank yelling at the television. You open the door, "TURN IT OFF!" Hank yells, and you hear the shower running in the bathroom.

"Hank!?" You say, filled with concern.

Who could be here, why are they here, what are they doing? Your mind rushes with the bad possibilities and you grab youe gun and get to the bathroom and see Connor facing you.

"Oh.. Hi, Connor?" You say, your adrenaline slowing down.

"Hello, Y/N. Turning on the shower would allow for Hank to become more sober, I apologize for the inconvenience or for worrying you." Connor says, reassuring you as he leans to turn the shower back off.

"What the fuck are you doing here?" Hank asks, looking at Connor.

"What, were you passed out drunk?" You ask Hank, filled with annoyance, now.

"A homicide was reported 43 minutes ago. I went to Jimmy's bar, and when I saw you weren't there, I came to see if you were home." Connor explains to both you and Hank.

"When I arrived here," He says, now facing you, "there was no response at ringing the doorbell, so I went along back to look inside. I found the lieutenant on the ground in the kitchen passed out, and I figured you were out of the house."

You look at Hank and he looked back, already preparing for your scolding.

"Are you serious? Blackout drunk? I asked you to not get drunk this one night!" You complain. You never liked how much he drank, it was unhealthy and you weren't ready to say goodbye to him.

"What else was I supposed to do with the early night off? Besides, you were out drinking too." He asks.

"Every night is an early night off for you! And a singular Pina Colada is nothing compared to your bottles." You yell back, frustrated. "Now come on, get dressed. We have to go investigate a homicide."

"You're just ignoring the fact that I was just assaulted in my own house by my own android?" Hank asks you, and then turns to Connor. "Can't you just leave me alone?"

"Unfortunately, I cannot." Connor says back. "I've been programmed to investigate this case and I can't do it without the both of you."

"I don't give a shit about your goddamn case!" Hank says back, mockingly and annoyed.

"Lieutenant, you're not yourself." Connor says to him. "You should-"

"Beat it! You hear me!? Get the hell out of here!" Hank yells at him, now genuinely angry.

"Why are you being so rude? All he's doing is helping with your job!" You say. Hank always got a little extra mean when he was intoxicated, and it didn't help that he already had it out for Connor.

Hank tries standing up, but only stumbles back as Connor helps him sit back down at the tub of the bath. You walk out to look at the kitchen as you hear Connor say to Hank, "I understand. It probably wasn't interesting anyway.. A man found dead in a sex club downtown.. Guess they'll have to solve the case without us." Despite your frustration, you smile at the fact that Connor was adapting to Hank's personality. In times like this, he truly felt human.

"You know, probably wouldn't do me any harm to get some air.." Hank says.

"Men are dogs." You say under your breath as you bend down to see Sumo again.

Connor goes to fetch some clothes for Hank, quickly followed by the sounds of Hank throwing up. You cringe and stand up, going to the kitchen as you feel a breeze.

You walk into the kitchen and see shattered glass on the ground next to the window, this must've been how Connor got in. Your eyes travel to the gun, which was laying on the ground next to a whiskey bottle. You pause, your body going cold as you bend down to look at it. Hank didn't play Russian Roulette much, but when he did, it always hurt you. You didn't want to walk in one day and see him dead on the ground, which is also why you never left him alone, even living with him when you could afford to move in to your own place. He needed you just as much as you needed him, yet some nights you weren't enough.

Connor walks into the kitchen and sees you staring at the gun. You quickly get up and recompose yourself. "He likes to play Russian Roulette." You say, taking the bullet that had been in the gun and throwing it outside in furstration, and quickly facing away from Connor. He just slowly nods and heads to the living room, taking in his surroundings and analyzing different things, as he always does.

You go to the kitchen table and see a picture laying face down. You already knew what it was, yet you still turned it around.

His son's death broke him, and took a large piece of you as well. Cole was always there to cheer you up on hard days, and now the days without him were the hardest. You understood the pain that Hank was in, though you wished he wouldn't blame every android for it. And even worse, you wished he didn't blame himself.

After a moment you and Connor trade places, you sitting by Sumo in the living room and Connor looking around in the kitchen.

"Sorry about the window, Lieutenant." You hear Connor say from in the kitchen. "I really thought you'd been attacked. Of course, CyberLife will pay for the damage."

"Yeah, trust me, I'll send 'em a bill." Hank yells back from in the bathroom.

After a moment Connor walks into the living room and sits beside you on the couch as you pet Sumo. "I'm sure you saw the photo on the table." You say, breaking the silence.

"I did." He says back.

"I don't ever expect to be on the same level as his son, and I never expect to have more importance over him, though sometimes I just wish I were enough for Hank to at least try to stick around here." You hadn't told anyone how you felt over Hank's suicidal tendencies, and you didn't know why you were opening up to Connor about it. You told yourself it was because he was an inanimate object, though you didn't actually believe that.

It seemed Connor didn't know what to say, and after a moment you look down at what you were wearing. "I can't work in this.." You say, standing up.

Connor looks at you and what you were wearing for a moment, and you suddenly feel a little embarrassed. You go back to your room and throw a loose turtle neck over what you were wearing, and after seeing your coat on the ground, you grab that too, as it was still raining outside.

As you were walking down the hallway back to the living room, Hank walks out of the bathroom. You turn around and walk towards the living room with Hank, seeing Connor still sat on the couch next to Sumo. Sumo walks up to Hank and Hank looks down at him.

"Be a good dog, Sumo." Hank says. "We won't be long."

Hank turns to walk to the door, you and Connor following as you start your way to investigate the homicide at the Eden club.
