Elena's eyes swept over the room before sitting down. The table had already been set, the food growing cold in front of their seats, which was quite odd. Esther usually waits for everyone to be seated before serving food, yet her siblings had begun to eat without her. Elena paused as her eyes searched the room once more.

"Where is Mother? She was here a moment ago–" Elena inquired.

"Ayana requested her presence; she will join us later," Mikael informed.

Elena narrowed her eyes at the lie but said nothing more as her siblings turned their attention back to the food in front of them. Sighing, Elena took a sip of wine before eating a spoonful of the porridge.

The table was uneasily silent as they ate; Elena couldn't help but frown at this. It was yet another thing that had changed since– Elena paused, taking a moment to touch the black rose that she had braided into her hair. This act did not go unnoticed by Elijah, who couldn't help but sneak worried glances at his sister.

After everyone had gotten halfway done with their food, Mikael stood up, excusing himself out of the room; only he had not left the room.

A shout filled the room as pain shot through Elena's body. Time seemed to pause as she reached up to her chest, though her hand never made it there. Mikael pulled his sword out with great speed as Elena's body fell to the floor with a sickening thud. Screams filled the room in an instant as the chairs fell to the ground.

Niklaus attempted to rush to her side, stopping when Mikael pointed his sword at him. Tears stung his eyes as he looked Mikael in the eye.

"What are you going to do, boy?"

Anger filled Niklaus as his fist connected with Mikael's face. Mikael stumbled back a few steps before spitting blood out his mouth. Niklaus could swear he saw a smirk on Mikael's face before Mikael's sword sliced his side. Niklaus fell to the ground with a groan. Mikael let out a halfhearted chuckle as he moved toward Rebekah.

Sobs wracked Rebekah's body as she looked up at her father.

"Why?" Rebekah whispered.

"Rebekah, run!" Elijah shouted, stepping in front of Mikael.

Mikael eyed the wooden bowl in Elijah's hand with distaste before swinging his sword. Finn quickly ran towards Rebekah, who hadn't moved a muscle.

"Snap out of it! We have to move, now!"

His voice came out as a harsh whisper as he shook Rebekah's body. Kol ran up to them with a frown on his face.

"There's a barrier around the house, Finn."

"Can you break it?"

"I–"

Blood spewed from Kol's mouth as the sword penetrated his chest. Rebekah covered her mouth as she watched her brother's body fall to the floor. Bile filled her throat as Kol's lifeless eyes stared up at her. Finn pushed Rebekah back, his heart filled with hate as he stood up.

Mikael struck down Finn the moment he opened his mouth. Rebekah backed herself into a wall before Mikael came and drove his sword into her heart.

Slowly, Mikael moved back towards Niklaus.

"This, I will enjoy."

Niklaus closes his eyes, fully aware of the death that awaits him. His father had been right; he was weak. He had not been able to protect anyone. If anyone deserved to die tonight, it was him.

"Coward." Mikael scoffs before stabbing Niklaus in the heart.

Silence filled the house as Mikael walked toward Elena's body. Lowering himself, he closed Elena's eyes.

"Forgive me, my fighter." He whispered, pressing a kiss on her forehead.

Mikeal then goes to his other children, closing their eyes with a gentleness they would never know. When he reaches Niklaus, a small smile appears on his lips.

"You were strong today, my little warrior. Be proud."

Mikael takes a moment before closing Niklaus's eyes.

Mikael lights a candle, a signal to Esther, before driving the sword through his own heart.
