So today was the first day in nearly a year my mom decided to talk to me. And it was to take me out dress shopping. DRESS. SHOPPING.

"Mom we don't even know if we're having the wedding." I whined. Josh squeezed my hand and laughed.

"You are. You can't just get engaged and never get married." she said. I pouted and slumped down into the seat.

"Don't pout sweetheart, I let Josh come along! Usually there's a rule that says the husband isn't aloud to see the wedding dress until the wedding day." she said. I groaned.

"No mom that's just a stupid superstition you and dad have." I said. She rolled her eyes.

When she wasn't looking I made a face and gave her the finger. Josh chuckled and kissed my temple.

"What kind of suit do you want me to wear?" he asked. I smiled, knowing he was talking about his bright blue suit, his bronze suit, and his sparkly suit.

"Black suit, the white shirt I wear sometimes, red tie." I said. He smiled.

"Kay." he said, trying his impression of a California teenage girl. I laughed.

He did a cheesy wink and did a sloppy kiss on my cheek, at one point he even licked my cheek.

"You are such a freak!" I laughed, wiping my cheek. He smiled.

"Sexiest freak you've ever seen." he said. I smiled.

"You sure are." I said, kissing his cheek.

Mom dragged us into a store, and grabbed a bundle of a dress, so I couldn't see it. I'll admit, the change rooms were cool.

You would pick a room, go in, and then it was like, another big room, with a seat, three stalls for changing in, and there were small seats in each stall. It was cool.

Mom shoved the bundle at me. "Tell me before you come out, I want to do your hair and makeup." she ordered.

"Okay..." I shrugged.

I went into the stall, and changed.

Nobody's P.O.V.

She groaned when she saw the clothes, and her mom started pulling at her hair. She came out and showed Josh.

She was adorned in a beautiful white sleeveless gown that went down to her ankles, with a V-neck so low it was totally embarrassing. Delicate gold armbands circled her biceps. An intricate necklace of amber, coral, and gold flowers glittered on her chest, and her hair...

"Oh, god." she said.

She took out the knife she always had with her (don't ask, but after the whole Gertrude thing, she always took it with her) and looked at herself in the reflection of the blade.

Josh chuckled slightly. She had named the blade Katroptris, because of her interest in Greek mythology, and the original knife belonged to Helen, who only used it to look at herself. Josh had a joke that the only thing Lauren had used the knife for since she got it has been to look at herself.

Her hair was perfect: lush and long and dark black, braided with gold ribbon down one side so it fell across her shoulder. She even wore makeup.

Since Lauren had anxiety, she often bit her bottom lip so hard it started bleeding, and she had scabs on her lip, that often made her lips look bloodshot.

The makeup was better than she would ever have down herself - subtle touches that blended her lip color together so it looked even and cherry red, and brought out all the different colors in her eyes.
