I've seen the King various times since the day he hurt Everly. Every time I lock eyes with him, I wish I could punch him straight in the jaw. Watch his blood splatter across the walls. But I don't. I keep in control.

For Everly.

Richard has been busy these last couple of days, so busy that he can't even have dinner with his family. Ethel rarely decides to show up so Everly has eaten dinner alone and I know that she's been grateful for it.

But today is different, dinner has been called early and I stand with my back against the wall. Staring ahead at the ornament display cabinet, as I always do when I wait for Everly to finish her food.

Her eyes are firmly down at her plate, pushing her vegetables around with the fork. The action is so delicate I could barely see her moving but she's ignoring the conversation her parents are having, not that I want to listen either. It's severely boring, my eyes almost shut in response.

"Darling," Richard's voice echoes through the air and I flick my eyes up subtly to watch him. "Everly, I am talking to you."

He reaches his hand out to grab her arm and she flinches, moving away but not by a lot. There isn't really anywhere for her to go. Deep fury ignites inside my stomach and I stare at the spot he had pinched her pale skin, now leaving a pink mark.
