The town was quite busy this time of the year. A festival was being held and you were thrilled though you knew that you wouldn't attend. You had work to do, and you weren't really fond of large crowds and loud music, it just wasn't your thing.
You couldn't help but watch a few families collecting lanterns and balloons for the festival, and a smile broke across your face as you remembered when you were a child. Those years were long gone now and you had to admit, you were pretty sad.
You bustled around the grocery store, picking multiple things and shoving them into your trolly.

A week's worth of shopping? That should be enough.

You looked up right at that moment to see John Wick enter the store and your heart skipped a beat as you struggled to carry on with your shopping. He didn't look at you, more like he hasn't noticed you, and you watch as he begins to shop, just like any normal person in the grocery store.
You're quick to finish off your shopping and you turn to head to the counter only to be stopped by some kids fooling around in one of the isles.

'Aren't you my neighbour?'

Your blood runs cold when you hear a smooth deep voice behind you and you look over to see John Wick behind you, holding a shopping basket.

'Oh!'

You turn around fully to address him, 'yes! I'm (Y/N), it's lovely to meet you', the man's smile was gentle as he nods, 'it's lovely to meet you too, I'm John'.

'John? That's a nice name'.

Are you stupid?

'I've been quite busy for the past year, so I apologize for not talking to you at all'.

'Oh, that's quite alright, I've been quite busy myself'.

He chuckles lowley and you swear you feel butterflies in your chest, 'well, I could tell, I don't see you often'.

He was watching out for you!?

Now, this was the chance to get excited but you had to keep yourself together otherwise you'd act like a fool.

'Yeah, but I think everything's going to die down and that'.

'Hmm'.

You hear a phone go off and John pulls his out, 'oh, I'll have to take this, it was nice to talking to you, hope to see you around more', you wave him before and watch him disappear down one of the isles, talking on his phone.
You had actually heard his voice and you loved it.

When you got home you found that you weren't paying attention at all. You had placed a couple of items in the fridge that certainly didn't belong there.

Who was he talking to? Was it his girlfriend.

A pang of fear whirls around in your chest as you think of another woman in his life. Someone you hadn't seen, someone whom he loves.
That moment, you mind went blank and you slowed down, what are you doing? You like this man but you're getting afraid? Just let the man go for godsake, he's not yours to have!
You sigh and finish unpacking your groceries before turning the tv on. You were always going to be alone, that's how it was supposed to be. You had broken up with your ex three years ago. It was toxic and it had taken you some time to realize it.
Jeremy wasn't a nice guy after the breakup, it seemed like he couldn't let go of you and every single time you went out on a date, he was there to crash it.
But now, you're here, you've moved away completely and he hasn't got a clue where you are.

And it'll stay like that.

A sudden knock on your door causes you to freeze and you slowly make your way over to look through the peephole.
You see a man dressed all in black with dark suglasses. He didn't look friendly at all but what could you do? Would he break down your door?

You open the door, but you're still protected, thank the lord you chose to have a wire door as well.

'Hey uh... How can I help?'

The man seemed to scan you, though you couldn't see his eyes, 'are you Mariette Holmes?' You frown at him, 'huh? No my name's (Y/N)'.
The man hummed and you noticed how he looked past your shoulder. He was trying to see if you were alone, 'hey look, I'm very tired, was there anything else-'.

'Are you alone?'

'No, why?'

'I was hoping to ask-'.

'My partner isn't well right now, but I'll pass the message over to them'.

The man had grown silent and you swear he was going to barge in but he nods, 'very well, have a nice day (Y/N)'.
The way he said your name had sent shivers down your spine.

Freak.
