I hear Ashyton creeping in just past 3 in the morning. And though I crave to confront him, I allow the feeling of betrayal to simmer. We don't keep secrets, certainly not about inconsequential things like this.

Taylor. That girl cannot possibly be this mind altering for Ash to become so obsessed.

For hours I reflect. I have two choices really, I go forward with my plan, or I let Ash have this.

Simple.

I expect to be the first one up, considering it's 5 am; yet I hear voices in the kitchen.

" It's good to have you back Reece, Rowan's been a pain in the ass without you," Dimiri says faintly with a chuckle.

" Glad to be back. Sounds like you have your hands full with the new kids."

I round the corner, cutting off whatever Dimiri's response was going to be, going straight to the fridge and grabbing some breakfast.

" Aspen. Can I talk to you in my office for a moment." I meet Dimiri's eyes without even glancing over at Reece, even though I feel the weight of his gaze heating my skin.

Silently i turn down the hall to his office in answer causing Reece to let out a faint scoff.

I make myself comfortable in one of the worn leather chairs. He rounds his large mahogany desk, which is suspiciously free of any clutter, and goes straight for a locked drawer at his left side.

" Aspen, I think it's obvious to say that of you and Ashyton, you're the leader, correct?" He pulls out a thick file, and without opening it up, slides it my direction.

" Actually I would say we are more a partnership, why do you ask?" He nods his head towards the folder, and I can't help but roll my eyes at this whole dramatic display.

I pick it up and flip it open, keeping my eyes on his, i glance down as he does, and I can't help but blanch at the sight.

" How did you get these?" I demand, clutching the sides tightly.

" I have my connections... Now I knew some of what you two endured, and now I know everything, we can now be open with each other. Open and honest." Clearly I underestimated Dimiri before, because before me are detailed accounts and pictures of our years spent in the compound. Times I had left behind, moments I had forced Ash to forget, which he knew somehow, considering Ashytons absence.

" What do you want Dimiri? Is this supposed to be blackmail? Because you should know that at the end of the day, none of this, none of my past matters to me."

" But it does, at least to Ashyton."

" No, I'm not blackmailing you, I just wanted to grab your attention. Prove a point. I want us to work together, we're family. And even if you don't want to admit it, we're more alike than you think," he reaches back into the drawer and pulls out another folder, this one thinner, and opens it up, " you can keep that other one." For the first time I see his mouth pinch in regret? Or maybe it's guilt. Either way, it's gone as quickly as it came leading me to wonder if perhaps I imagined it.
