"Awww you look pretty!" Thalia gushed as soon as I walked out of my room, truth be told I was rushing. After spending far too long in town with James I had barely any time before Spencer was meant to be here to go to dinner at his house
"Where are you of to?" She asked throwing me my shoes
"Spencer's parents want us to go to Dinner" I reminded her

We had had many talks about this, she was still hell bent that Spencer and I weren't going to work but honestly that was the least of my concern at the moment
Spencer's mum has never loved me. Sure she's liked me but there has always been something wrong with whatever I do, whatever I wear. Whenever I talk to anyone about it they just say 'it's the price of dating in this world'
But surely it shouldn't be that way

"Prince Charming is here your highness" Thalia said nodding the door after a soft knock made the pair of us jump

I walked over to the door to open it revealing Spencer leaning against the frame laughing at something on his phone, he looked at me smiling before leaning forward pecking my lips
"you look pretty love" he said before finally putting his phone away into his pocket
"Are you ready to go?" he asked offering me his hand as I nodded

"I won't be back late Thal" I said but Thalia nodded before looking at Spencer with a little glare, not one that he would notice. Or at least one I hope he wouldn't notice

"I'm getting this slight hint that she doesn't like me you know" He said as we walked through the hallways
"Who? Thalia? She likes everyone?" I lied
Truth be told Thalia has enough hatred towards people she could power and entire town if she had the chance
"I don't know Riley, something seems off about her. Maybe we should look into your housing else where" He suggested as we got out to the car

"I like Thalia and I like the dorm" I said making Spencer roll her eyes subtly, probably in the hope I wouldn't have noticed
"We'll talk about it later okay?" He asked making me sigh as he watched me get into the passenger side of the car

Spencer's parents house wasn't a long drive, 40 minutes tops. But with the way Spencer drives we got there in 20..
His house was in the usual impeccable condition it usually was but with the money that his Mum throws at it, you wouldn't expect anything else
"Oh my baby!" Jennifer said walking over to engulf Spencer into a tight hug while her husband Joseph joined us
"Riley honey, you look lovely. As always" he smiled hugging me lightly before switching places with Jennifer

Jennifer did her usual, she looked me up and down for a second before flashing the fakest smile you have ever seen

It wasn't long before we were seating in there main dinning room, it was different then the last time I was here but that was a given, Jennifer likes to redecorate seasonally
"How is college going for the pair of you?" Jennifer asked including me in a question for a change
"It's going well on my side of things. We've been given our yearly quota and now I just have to find a project to develop" Spencer said nodding
"Riley is doing superbly in her classes too" He smiled placing a hand on my thigh stroking it gently

"Oh tell us more Riley, how is that going?" Joseph asked taking a sip of his wine
"It was a lot at first, I don't think I was really prepared for the choice I made but I've soon learnt to pounder on" I said making Joseph chuckle
"Ladies don't ponder Riley" Jennifer said clearly unimpressed

"And the Autumn Ball is this weekend. Is everything ready?" Jennifer asked making Spencer and I look at each other before nodding
This ball was really more for Spencer. The boys tend to use this time to build contacts, to grew their own little empires even it doesn't amount to anything
The girls are there for 'arm candy'

"Riley have you got your dress? Your mother showed me it last night and I have to say it is quite beautiful" Jennifer smiled making me swallow a little to hard earning a look from Spencer

"I uh, I went with a different dress. That one wouldn't have been ready for the ball" I lied

Imagine having to lie about a dress.. Is this really what my life has come to

"Oh? I thought your mum order it made for you?" She asked with a look of disapproval on her face
"I don't know what to say, I went there yesterday and that is what they told me" I said earning a scoff from both Spencer and his mother. Clearly my tone was slightly out of place..

"I reckon no matter the dress you wear Riley, you'll look beautiful" Joseph said attempting to try and calm his family down but that wasn't going to happen that easily

The rest of the night was full of small talk, I tried my best to avoid getting involved in a pretentious topics, anything that would spark a reaction again
But thankfully it wasn't long until Spencer and I were in the car on the way back to Campus, I couldn't be more thankful

"Riley, we need to talk" he said the moment he parked up into the carpark
"I don't know what sort of rebellious intent that roommate of yours has sparked in you but you need to cut it out" he said making me look at him confused
"What are you talking about?" I asked
"I mean, the way you spoke to my mother this evening was out of order" he continued

"If you really want to build a future with me, you both need to get on" Spencer warned me
"But that works both ways Spence" I said making him nod
"Yes but your more obedient then my mother" He said making my breath hitch

Obedient..

"You know if I called your Dad and told him right now, he would have you back in those etiquette classes of yours" He warned me making me bow my head nodding

"Good girl" he whispered leaning forward placing a soft kiss on the top of my head
