Chapitre Neuf

I arrived at school the following Friday. My uncle had come home early from his trip drunk as a skunk on Sunday. He had also found out that I had left the house during his time away and was not happy with me. This resulted in a gruesome punishment.

Instead of going to the hospital, I was forced to stay home while I rested and was carefully watched by house staff and our private doctor. 

I was still very stiff and achy. My back was almost black and blue from being tossed around and being thrown down the stairs.

When I arrived at lunch I found that we had a new manager, some girl named Renge. I walk into the lunchroom to find the twins with dyed hair and the two of them throwing things at each other, while a spaced-out soup-covered Tamaki sat at the table between them.

"Hikaru? Kaoru? What's going on with you two? Why are you fighting?" I interrogated. 

"Bud out Mathieu. Mind your own business!" They snapped at me, catching me off guard.

"Oh, okay," I spoke softly. I grabbed my lunch and went to the club room to eat. 

I didn't want to overstep if it wasn't my place. I fed Tadeo his lunch and ate mine in silence. Was I starting to bother them? Maybe I was being too pushy or annoying? I hardly know them after all. 

I took a deep breath after I finished my lunch. I walked back into the lunchroom to put my tray on the conveyor belt and started my way back to my classroom.

I fought the urge to wince in pain when I was suddenly grabbed by the shoulders in the middle of the hallway.

"We're sorry Mattie! Please let us explain!" The two identical voices exclaimed frantically.

"It's okay, really, it wasn't my place, I'm sorry if I overstepped any of your boundaries," I apologized, peeling them off of me.

"We were only acting. Oh, by the way, where were you all week?" Hikaru questioned.

"Yeah, it was like you disappeared off the face of the earth, we were really worried!" Kaoru explained.

"Oh right, about that, I wasn't really feeling well so I slept a lot. My uncle wasn't feeling well when he came home from Aruba so he must've given me his cold," I shrugged sheepishly.

Kaoru gave me a skeptical look. Before he could say anything the intercom beeped loudly indicating an incoming announcement.

"Would Mathieu Nanase report to the Chairman's office, I repeat, Mathieu Nanase to the Chairman's office," The lady over the intercom said. 

I let out a soft sigh. "I guess that's me. Anyway, I wish you luck with whatever you're planning," I smiled, before turning and heading to the chairman's office.

I knocked on the door quietly and it opened for me. "Hello, Mathieu, Please come and have a seat?" Beckoned Chairman Suoh, who was sitting next to an assistant and a man with a white lab coat. "This is one of my family's private doctors, he's just going to give you a quick check-up and ask you some questions," Chairman Suoh stated. 

"Why? Was there something wrong with my physical exam?" I asked nervously. 

Damn it Kyoya. Him and his big nose. He really is like Gretchen Wieners.

"No, we just wanted to check in and see how you were doing, with your illness and all. I know it can sometimes cause nasty spills so we just want to make sure everything looks okay," He reassured me.

I sighed and I was taken to a private room somewhere else in the school. I took off my tops and set them down on the chair. I heard both the doctor and Chairman Suoh suck in a tight breath when they saw my back.
